Goldcoast Golf Club hosted the Southeast Men’s Junior Alliance on Sunday 14^th January.  Course conditions were perfect on the day and some excellent scores were returned.  Thank you to all the participants who played and congratulations to the prize winners.

The John White Carpentry Sponsored winter league is into the 13^th week.  We look forward to the resumption of play after a challenging week weather wise.  Hopefully the inclement weather is now behind us, with this in mind we ask members and visitors alike to please observe the yellow markers around the greens and to repair pitch marks on them even if they are not your own to keep the greens in the condition the club is renowned for.  Check out the team positions on the club website news page, it’s still all to play for.

Eighteen holes are in play, winter rules are in operation. Placing on both fairways and rough. Please be aware of the yellow stakes around the greens to prevent damage by trollies. Please check with kiosk staff for further updates. Well done to our green keeping staff for maintaining the course in excellent condition.

 

DID YOU KNOW

The average number of ball marks made on greens per round is 8 per golfer. Assuming only 130 rounds are played each day on our course. Our greens receive 1040 impressions daily. 31000 per month OR MORE THAN 374,400 per year. Are you wondering how to make a putt under these conditions? Please repair your pitch marks even if they are not yours and always, please shout fore if your ball goes in a direction that it was not intended to, for it will make the course safer for everyone.

SPRING LEAGUE

The teams have now been selected and the league started on Sat 13th Jan, all details have been posted in the computer room and on our What’sApp group. We have 6 teams in total all with new members and captains and each team is named after an historical location in the county!!

The rules are as the Winter League, with a minimum of 5 games per team member and 5 scores to count per round. Entry is €20 payable on first day of play, hopefully the weather will be kinder to us for this leg of the league!

GET WELL WISHES

The committee and members are sending their very best wishes for a speedy recovery to our wonderful Lady Captain Elaine after recent surgery in Cork. Thankfully, Elaine is home and in the recovery stage, looking forward to seeing you with us in the club soon, you are missed!!

Also sending our best wishes to DD who is hospitalised in Waterford at the moment, hoping for a speedy recovery and see you out and about soon!!

 

COMMITTEE MEETING

Our first meeting of the New Year took place on Friday 19th Jan with our President Anne chairing the meeting in the absence of our Lady Captain Elaine. It was a very proactive meeting with our new officers who addressed and dealt with many of our projects for the year on the night. No need to worry Elaine, everything is in great hands until your return!!

 

DONATION TO SERT

Our Christmas scramble raises money every year for charity and this year we decided to donate to SERT who provide transport for cancer patients attending the oncology clinics for treatment.  This year we raised over €400 which included entry fees, raffle and donations.

SOUTHEAST JUNIOR ALLIANCE

Goldcoast Golf Club hosted the Southeast Men’s Junior Alliance on Sunday.  A huge turnout took to the course to play 18 holes on a beautiful, sunny, crisp morning.  The players were extremely complimentary of the excellent condition of the golf course with our greenkeeping staff earning high praise and our hotel staff too for their hospitality.

A special thank you to Alan Darcy for expertly managing the timesheet on the day and Brian in the Kiosk for keeping everything running smoothly.  Full results in next weeks notes.

 

CONDOLENCES

THE PINS WIN WINTER LEAGUE

Our Winter League this year again very kindly sponsored by The Moorings is now completed with some great scores returned!!

Congratulations to The Pins captained by Katie Kiely, winners of the league 2023/24 with a fabulous score of 578 pts followed closely by The Bogeys captained by Gillian Cashman with a score of 562pts.

The top three teams including The Pars captained by Deirdre Ruane were in contention for many weeks leading to the final!! Well done to all who participated and kept the league running despite the inclement conditions.

JOHN MCGRATH MEMORIAL PRESENTATION

Following this competition which was a huge success we presented three chairs to the Palliative Care Unit at Dungarvan Community Hospital.  Thank you to everyone that supported the day.

GOODBYE TO 2023

As we say goodbye to 2023, we look back on a good year for the Club.  Our final of the winter league sponsored by John White Carpentry took place with the Nire/Touraneena beating An Rinn in the final. Our Captain Micheal had his drive in, and then his Captain’s Prize in June with Colin McArthur taking first prize. Our John McGrath Memorial Day was a huge success once again. Our President Rafael held his weekend in September with Pat Kiely taking the spoils.  Then in October the Winter league for 2023/2024 kicked off again.  We lost some friends along the way.  We remember these people as the year draws to a close.

We welcomed a lot of visitors and new members to the Club with great reports coming back about the hidden gem we have on the coast.  Great feedback was received on the excellent condition of the golf course, the spectacular scenery and the friendliest of staff and members which is great to hear and makes you proud to be a member of the Goldcoast Golf Club.

We wish our incoming Captains and Presidents both from the Men and Ladies Club all the best for 2024.  To all the officers and committee of each Club, our wonderful staff in the kiosk, golf course and Hotel, the management team and all our wonderful members, New Years greetings to you and your families from the Gold Coast Golf Club. WINTER/SPRING LEAGUE SPONSORED BY THE MOORINGS

Our Winter League this year again very kindly sponsored by The Moorings is well on the way with Rd 7 completed over the week-end. There were some fabulous scores recorded this week which could rattle up the leader board again!!

The teams in the top 3 positions after Rd 7with a shift in the leaderboard and magnificent scores returned are as follows:

The Spring League starts on the 2nd week of January and list is now posted for new teams going forward.

 

LIONS CLUB HAMPER APPEAL

Our Hamper Appeal this year was very successful despite the inclement weather conditions which kept many people away from the Club. Our members pulled out the stops again in the purchase of raffle tickets, Christmas cards and donations when they presented the Lions Club with a cheque for €2,500.

A word of thanks to our members and sponsors who organise this event every year, your generosity is much appreciated.

Our Handicap secretary and committee will be meeting again in Feb/March 2024 for ongoing review. To date, all decisions were unanimous.
