Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 6th May 2024

MIXED FOURSOMES

Our mixed foursomes team were in action last Saturday against our neighbours Dungarvan and what a battle it turned out to be. Waterford hurlers might have drawn with Tipperary but our team went for victory with a play off on the 19th hole claiming an exciting win.  This sets up an encounter with Williamstown Golf Club in a few weeks with a home venue once again. The team under the management of Aisling Fennell and John Hallinan was as follows Micheal Kavanagh and Katie Kiely, John Hallinan and Gillian Cashman, Roy Ware and Karen Darcy, Darren Williams and Martina Corkery. Thank you for all the support from club members and best of luck in the next round.

JIMMY BRUEN

This competition takes place in the Goldcoast next Saturday 11th May at 3pm v’s West Waterford Golf Club.  We wish the team under the management of John White and Martin Murray all the best.  Your support on the day would be greatly appreciated.

COURSE HANDICAP CHANGES FROM 1st APRIL

The “Course Rating minus Par” change is an update to the World Handicap System (WHS) that took effect in Great Britain and Ireland on April 1st 2024. It’s a new way of calculating handicaps, where the difference between the Course Rating and the Par of the course is taken into account. Here’s how it works: Course Rating is the measure of the difficulty of a course for a scratch golfer. Par is the standard number of strokes an expert golfer is expected to make for a particular course. Under the new system, your Course Handicap is calculated using the following formula:

Course Handicap=Handicap Index × (113÷Slope Rating) + (Course Rating-Par) If the Course Rating is higher than the Par, you’ll receive additional strokes. Conversely, if the Par is higher, you’ll lose strokes. This adjustment aims to make the game fairer and allows players to compete from different tees without needing an adjustment. Updated course handicap tables are displayed at the first tee noticeboard or can be checked by consulting your Golf Ireland App.

INTER CLUB MIXED FOURSOMES

Our team under the management of John Hallinan and Aisling Fennell took on near neighbours Dungarvan on home soil on Saturday. It was tough going against the very strong Dungarvan pairings, but they had to succumb to a stronger Goldcoast side on the 19th hole.

It was a great match with terrific golf being played from all pairings, and it was evident from the start that it would go to the wire.

Congratulations to John, Aisling and their team for the spectacular display of golf and wishing them all the best for the next leg of the tournament.

Commiserations to the Dungarvan team and thank you all for a very sporting game. Wishing President June, Captain Liam and Lady Captain Kolette the very best for your Centenary Year celebrations, we hope you have a good one.

INTERMEDIATE FOURSOMES
