Congrats to the winners and hopefully next week will bring sunnier conditions.
A list of our proposed outings for the season are now posted on our WhatsApp group, there may be a few tweaks to the scheduled list but it’s an indicator of what’s on offer.

QUIZ NIGHT A GREAT SUCCESS

Our recent Table Quiz in the Gold Coast Hotel proved to be a great success, with a fantastic attendance and a brilliant atmosphere throughout the evening. There was great fun and plenty of craic on the night.

Captain Johnny did an excellent job as Quizmaster, keeping everyone entertained from start to finish with a lively mix of questions and humour.

Sincere thanks to Captain Johnny and Lady Captain Bridge and all who helped on the night. We also extend our thanks to the Gold Coast Hotel for hosting the event so well.

Finally, thank you to our Winter League teams, members, friends and visitors for their wonderful support. It was a great social occasion and a lovely way to bring everyone together.

DONNCHADH DUNNE ELECTRICAL W.E.S. WINTER LEAGUE 2025/2026

The Gents Winter League quarter-finals took place on Sunday in very challenging weather conditions.

First out were Stradbally and Northern Alliance. After a hard-fought contest, Northern Alliance came out on top and will now face Nire/Touraneena in the semi-final next Sunday 8th March at 10.00am.

Abbeyside met Western Allies in the second quarter-final, and this proved to be an epic encounter. Two matches went to the third and fifth playoff holes before a result was secured. The teams ultimately finished level, requiring an additional playoff hole to decide the tie, with Abbeyside holding their nerve to progress. They will now face Dunhill in the semi-final next Sunday at 11.30am.

If last weekend’s matches are any indication, we can look forward to two more highly competitive semi-finals.

Well done to all players who competed in dreadful conditions and to everyone who continues to support the Winter League, now proudly in its 25th year.

The Grand Final will take place on Sunday, 22nd March, when the 2026 Winter League Champions will be crowned. Best of luck to all involved.

ON THE COURSE

We ask all visitors and members to please always respect the fairways and greens. Please observe all no-go areas around the greens and use varied access points across the fairways when making your way to the greens. This will help protect the course and allow it the opportunity to recover during periods of inclement weather.

FUN TABLE QUIZ

Our table quiz was held on Friday night with a large attendance of members and friends. Questions were multiple choice answers which created some hilarity at different stages amongst the audience!!

We had some top class quiz buffs in attendance who ultimately took the honours when the tally was finalised. Congratulations to Victor Mullins and his team in 1st place with 68pts and to Michael Scanlon and his team in 2nd place with 65pts.

There was also a special category for the men’s winter league teams which was won by the Nire/Touraneena team with a great result of 67pts. The runners-up were the Western Allies who were told by Martin (handicap secretary) that they were getting 2 shots each back and some help, but don’t know where the help will be applied – golf or mental ability!!

The boys decided to don their prizes, which consisted of aprons, rubber gloves and feather dusters for their photographic session, they were absolutely hilarious!!

They had a multitude of spot prizes for singing, putting and general fun answers, plus raffle tickets. It was a great night of fun and laughter with some delicious finger food served during the break. A big thank you to our Captain’s Johnny and Bridge and to all who helped on the night, and the members who donated spot prizes for our fun night out!!
