LIONS CLUB CHRISTMAS APPEAL 2nd to 8th Dec 2024
Unfortunately the Lions Club Christmas Appeal 2nd to 8th Dec 2024 was impacted by poor weather conditions. If members couldn’t play due to the poor weather, they might consider supporting the Lions club by making a donation or buying raffle tickets or Christmas cards instead. Beautiful Raffle Prizes include a Drinks Hamper, Christmas Hamper and a turkey and ham. Raffle tickets are on sale in the kiosk until Sunday 22nd Dec. All proceeds will be donated to the Lions Club Christmas Appeal. Your continued support of this worthy cause is much appreciated.

WESTGATE WINDOWS & DOORS SPONSORED GENTS WINTER LEAGUE 2024/25
Our Gents Winter League has now entered its seventh week. Thanks to everyone for making a great effort so far.
Qualifying rounds run until Friday, February 14th 2025. Competitions are over 18 holes, daily competition fee is €8 for the first 10 rounds entered, and €5 for all additional rounds.
Players can play on any day and as many times as they like during the qualifying period. To ensure your team’s success, each player is encouraged to complete a minimum of 10 rounds. The top 10 scores from 9 players on each team will count towards the team’s overall standing. Prizes awarded from now until Christmas will be festive turkey crowns and hams.

CARE OF THE GREENS
To maintain the quality of our greens throughout the winter, it was decided to assign each winter league team with responsibility for two greens. Teams are expected to repair all pitch marks on their designated greens and everyone’s cooperation will ensure the course remains in excellent condition for all players. Greens are allocated as follows.

Abbeyside: 1st and 2nd greens
An Rinn: 3rd and 4th greens
Ballinacourty: 5th and 6th greens
Comeragh: 7th and 8th greens
Dungarvan: 9th and 10th greens
Dunhill: 11th and 12th greens

MENS CLUB AGM
The Men’s club AGM was held Sunday evening 1st December in the Goldcoast Hotel attended by many members. The club’s activities for the year were presented to the meeting by Johnny Hughes in a professional manner as always. The Treasurer’s report was delivered by acting treasurer Martin Morris which shows the club in a good financial position. We then heard from outgoing Captain Dave O’Connor who thanked his President John Hallinan for his help and support during the year. He also thanked the committee and wished the incoming officers well for 2025.

END OF YEAR SOCIAL GATHER AND PRESENTATION NIGHT
Our Presentation night took place on Saturday 30th November in the Goldcoast Hotel and what a great night it turned out to be with both the Ladies and Gents Clubs coming together for presentation of prizes. Captain David O’Connor got the night under way introducing Lady Captain Elaine Nash, Lady President Anne Keane and President John Hallinan. Full list of winner and photos are displayed on the local papers. We would like to thank the Hotel staff for their wonderful service as always, and throughout the year the Green keeping Staff who keep the course in top shape in both summer and winter. We also thank the staff in the Kisok who are always so helpful and to the members of the club who make it such an enjoyable place to play golf.

Our Xmas ham competition has started with three hams in the pot already, and is now on entry sheet number four. Entries have been fantastic so far, so ladies keep playing for that ham to grace your Festive table!
The competition runs to mid December and is the usual 10 Hole with an entry of €3. Entry sheet now in kiosk, Enjoy.

CHARITY CHRISTMAS SCRAMBLE
Our Charity Scramble in aid of the Lions Club Hamper Appeal has been re-scheduled to Sunday 15th Dec weather permitting, all details will be posted soon, hoping some fine weather will prevail!
Raffle tickets are on sale for two beautiful hampers donated by members plus a turkey and ham, €2 each or 3 for €5. We also have fabulous local Christmas cards designed and produced by James Lynch, so don’t delay in procuring the beautiful festive cards!
There will be some festive goodies and mulled wine on the day compliments of our Lady Captain Elaine. Please ladies wear your Christmas jumper and hat to add to the fun of the day. All proceeds of the day plus ticket and Xmas card sales will be donated to the Lions Club Hamper Appeal.

Our winter league teams have put in a tremendous effort over the last couple of weeks taking advantage of the dry spells in the weather.

GOLD COASTERS
Our group celebrated in style last Thursday evening in a well known and extremely popular high class restaurant. We were warmly welcomed by Barry in the bar, who served us delicious mulled wine and cocktails. The ideal venue to gather the group, catch up and enjoy the beverages.
The dinner was absolutely delicious, the service and attention to detail was impeccable, thanks to Luca and staff. After the sumptuous meal Anne did a raffle and a lucky dip with some gorgeous festive prizes, plus some unique chocolate golf balls which were divine.
The food, drink and company of our friends was so good, we returned to the bar for more cocktails and a sing along, a big thank you to all the staff for a memorable night out.
Words fail me when it comes to our group leader and organiser, she never fails to deliver. Thanks a mill Anne for yet another wonderful outing, we are already looking forward to 2025.
Please note, our group will not be taking to the fairways again until the New Year, but we will be meeting in the Gold Coast Hotel before Christmas for lunch, all details will be posted on our group.

The Goldcoast Golf Club are delighted again to be associated with the Lions Club Christmas Appeal and our Lions Club week will run this week from Mon. 2nd to 8th Dec 2024 with raffle ticket sales continuing until 22nd December when the draw will take place for our fabulous prizes. All members will be encouraged to come along and play and contribute by entering competitions, buying raffle tickets or buying Christmas cards. The club competition proceeds between these dates will kindly be donated to the appeal by the management and club.
Beautiful Raffle Prizes include a Drinks Hamper, Christmas Hamper and a turkey and ham. Your support will help raise much needed funds to help those less well off in our society. Raffle tickets are on sale in the Kiosk, 1 strip for €2, 3 strips for €5. As always, we thank our sponsors who come on board each year.
The Goldcoast members have always been generous in their support and we know this will continue again this year for this very worthy cause.

The Club would like to offer its sincerest condolences to Peg Foley and Martina Corkery on the death of their husband and brother respectively John Patrick, who died over the weekend. LADIES CLUB AGM
The new golfing year kicked off with our AGM which took place on Sunday 1st Dec with a large group of ladies present. Our lady Captain Elaine opened the proceedings and following her thanks to her committee and all who helped her during her year announced her commitment to continue for another year to a rapturous applause!! She then announced Bridge Walsh as her incoming Vice-Captain to another round of applause.
Our Lady President Anne announced our very hard working secretary Mary Fennell as her incoming Lady President and presented her with her President’s Brooch.
We would like to thank our extremely hardworking Committee for 2024 and extend our warmest gratitude to those who are leaving us after years of loyal service, your participation and input was much appreciated!!
A special word of thanks to our wonderful secretary Mary and our fabulous treasurer Gillian in furnishing us with details of fixtures and results and keeping us in a healthy financial state – a wonderful job done by both!!
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new members and wish them well for the coming year. We are much indebted to our remaining group, many of whom have switched roles to fill the gaps in keeping the committee on the right track.
A special word of appreciation to our wonderful Lady Capt. Elaine who managed to keep the ship afloat during her time out due to health issues and has now volunteered to stay on for next year. We wish Elaine and her Committee a wonderful year ahead for 2025

A quick reminder about our club social gathering at the Gold Coast Hotel this Saturday, 30th November 2024, starting at 7pm.

HANDICAP REVIEW
A handicap review will be taking place this week. A note from the Handicap Secretary, if anyone feels they need an adjustment on their handicap to please put the request in writing and hand it in to the kiosk for the attention of the Handicap Secretary before the end of the week.

We kindly remind all members to take extra care of our greens. Please ensure you repair all pitch marks and handle the removal of your ball from the cup with care, to avoid any damage. Your attention to these details will help maintain the quality of our greens throughout the season.

WESTGATE WINDOWS & DOORS SPONSORED GENTS WINTER LEAGUE 2024/25
Our Gents Winter League has now entered its fourth week. Thanks to everyone for making a great effort so far.
With 9 teams of 13 players each, there’s plenty of time to make your mark, with qualifying rounds running until Friday, February 14, 2025.
Entry fee of €25, is to be paid before playing your first round. Competitions are over 18 holes, daily competition fee is €8 for the first 10 rounds entered, and €5 for all additional rounds.
Players can play on any day and as many times as they like during the qualifying period. To ensure your team’s success, each player is encouraged to complete a minimum of 10 rounds. The top 10 scores from 9 players on each team will count towards the team’s overall standing. Prizes awarded from now until Christmas will be seasonal turkey crowns and hams, to be distributed in December.

The AGM of the Men’s Club will take place at 5pm on Sunday December 1st in the Gold Coast. The good news is that the weather is remaining dry but a bit chilly for next week which will encourage a few more to take to the fairways! There is a minimum of 5 games to be played by each team member which is a requirement as per rules posted!! The league runs from Sat 26 Oct – Sat 31 Dec

CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to club member Thomas Shaw Hamilton for receiving a prestigious national bravery award in Dublin last weekend. Thomas was honoured with a special silver medal for his heroic actions on Clonea beach, where he courageously saved two boys in distress in the water. He was joined at the ceremony by his proud parents Rob and Natalie, girlfriend Lara and Granny Mary. Well done Thomas, this recognition is truly well deserved.

GOLD COASTERS
Our little group had another day out on Friday to beautiful Lismore for lunch in one of it’s prime hostelries. Our little jaunts away from golf and it’s trials and tribulations is vital for the wellbeing of the group, as we discuss everything from politics, religion, entertainment and current affairs.
Every aspect of life and living is on the agenda apart from golf, it’s not even mentioned! Yet, we come home energised and ready to do battle again on the course in the name of the Winter League!
Lunch was a spectacular event with superb food, service and magnificent company. Thanks a mill again to Anne for organising another memorable day out, she never fails to deliver!!
