JOHN WHITE CARPENTRY SPONSORED WINTER LEAGUE 2023/24

The John White Carpentry sponsored winter league is into the 17th and final week with Friday 23rd February being the last day of play in the qualifying phase. The league table is tight at the top and bottom with teams making a final surge to qualify for the matchplay stages.  Best of luck to team Captains and players and well done to all members for supporting the league throughout the winter season. COMMITTEE MEETING

The first committee meeting of 2024 takes place on Thursday night at 7.30pm pm in the Dugout Bar at the Goldcoast Hotel.

 

HANDICAP CHANGES

There are new handicap changes coming into force on the 1st of April 2024 please see below.

The Handicap Review procedure identifies any players who are consistently scoring above, or below, their expected scoring range. This year, there will be enhanced reports that will include a recommended adjustment of the player’s Handicap Index for each player flagged for consideration by the Handicap Committee. Handicap Committees will have a complete summary of the player’s record and player performance will be illustrated in summary charts, tables and graphs.

 

WINTER RULES

Eighteen holes are in play; winter rules are in operation. Placing on both fairways and rough. We ask members and visitors alike to please observe the yellow markers around the greens and to repair pitch marks on them even if they are not your own to keep the greens in the condition the club is renowned for. Well done to our green keeping staff for maintaining the course in excellent condition. While on the course we ask members and visitors alike to please shout fore if your ball goes in the direction you did not intend it to go, please shout fore left or right to keep everyone safe.

MASS FOR DECEASED MEMBERS

Our annual mass for deceased members took place last Friday night in the Goldcoast Hotel which was attended by a large number of members and their families.  The mass celebrant was Fr. Ned Hassett P.P. Abbeyside.  He was assisted on the night by Captain David, both Presidents John and Anne and Frank Mulvihill who read out the list of our departed friends.  We thank Bob O’Brien for organising this special night also thanks to the Hotel staff for the refreshments that were served following mass.

We send best wishes and a speedy recovery to Lady Captain Elaine who is missed by all at the club.  Hope to see her out and about again real soon.

Due to the inclement weather it was decided to meet up and have lunch in the Goldcoast. Thanks a mill to the staff for the beautiful food and excellent service, everything was delicious!!

After a very informative couple of hours discussing news and current affairs, we decided we had the world settled!! It was a wonderful afternoon in great company!  Thanks a mill to Anne for her organisational skills, it’s very important to keep the group in touch!

 

MASS FOR DECEASED MEMBERS

Our annual Mass for deceased members and friends took place on Friday 9th February in the Goldcoast Hotel celebrated by Fr. Ned Hassett. The names of all the deceased members were read out and prayed for during the service with a few new additions again this year.

Refreshments were served after Mass where everybody had a chance of a catch-up with members who are no longer playing golf. Fr. Ned did the rounds and chatted to everybody regaling the attributes of our dear departed Fr. Jerry which ensued in lots of laughter.

Our first game of the New Year took place on Thursday in beautiful balmy conditions which was perfect for golf. It was great to get back out on the fairways after the miserable conditions over the previous weeks. We had a nice turnout and everybody enjoyed getting back into the swing again. The average number of ball marks made on greens per round is 8 per golfer. Assuming only 130 rounds are played each day on our course. Our greens receive 1040 impressions daily. 31000 per month OR MORE THAN 374,400 per year. Are you wondering how to make a putt under these conditions? Please repair your pitch marks even if they are not yours and always, please shout fore if your ball goes in a direction that it was not intended to, for it will make the course safer for everyone.

MASS FOR DECEASED MEMBERS

Our annual mass for deceased members and friends takes place on Friday 9th February at 7.30pm in the Gold Coast Hotel. This is the time of year when we remember past members and friends and we will remember with fondness our dear departed Fr. Jerry Condon who was a member and celebrant of our masses.

Looking forward to seeing as many as possible at this annual celebration of the lives of members no longer with us!!

SOUTHEAST JUNIOR ALLIANCE RESULTS

Goldcoast Golf Club hosted the Southeast Men’s Junior Alliance on Sunday 14th January.  Course conditions were perfect on the day and some excellent scores were returned.  Thank you to all the participants who played and congratulations to the prize winners.

JOHN WHITE CARPENTRY SPONSORED WINTER LEAGUE 2023/24

The John White Carpentry Sponsored winter league is into the 13th week.  We look forward to the resumption of play after a challenging week weather wise.  Hopefully the inclement weather is now behind us, with this in mind we ask members and visitors alike to please observe the yellow markers around the greens and to repair pitch marks on them even if they are not your own to keep the greens in the condition the club is renowned for.  Check out the team positions on the club website news page, it’s still all to play for.

 

WINTER RULES

Eighteen holes are in play, winter rules are in operation. Placing on both fairways and rough. Please be aware of the yellow stakes around the greens to prevent damage by trollies. Please check with kiosk staff for further updates. Well done to our green keeping staff for maintaining the course in excellent condition.

 

DID YOU KNOW

The average number of ball marks made on greens per round is 8 per golfer. Assuming only 130 rounds are played each day on our course. Our greens receive 1040 impressions daily. 31000 per month OR MORE THAN 374,400 per year. Are you wondering how to make a putt under these conditions? Please repair your pitch marks even if they are not yours and always, please shout fore if your ball goes in a direction that it was not intended to, for it will make the course safer for everyone.

SPRING LEAGUE

The teams have now been selected and the league started on Sat 13th Jan, all details have been posted in the computer room and on our What’sApp group. We have 6 teams in total all with new members and captains and each team is named after an historical location in the county!!

The rules are as the Winter League, with a minimum of 5 games per team member and 5 scores to count per round. Entry is €20 payable on first day of play, hopefully the weather will be kinder to us for this leg of the league!

GET WELL WISHES

The committee and members are sending their very best wishes for a speedy recovery to our wonderful Lady Captain Elaine after recent surgery in Cork. Thankfully, Elaine is home and in the recovery stage, looking forward to seeing you with us in the club soon, you are missed!!

Also sending our best wishes to DD who is hospitalised in Waterford at the moment, hoping for a speedy recovery and see you out and about soon!!

 

COMMITTEE MEETING

Our first meeting of the New Year took place on Friday 19th Jan with our President Anne chairing the meeting in the absence of our Lady Captain Elaine. It was a very proactive meeting with our new officers who addressed and dealt with many of our projects for the year on the night. No need to worry Elaine, everything is in great hands until your return!!

 

DONATION TO SERT

Our Christmas scramble raises money every year for charity and this year we decided to donate to SERT who provide transport for cancer patients attending the oncology clinics for treatment.  This year we raised over €400 which included entry fees, raffle and donations.
