JUNIOR FOURSOMES

Our Foursomes team under the guidance of their manager Elaine who had a nail biting victory over our neighbours West Waterford recently took on Waterford Castle on Sunday 4th June in what could be described as scintillating!!

Our ladies took on a seriously strong team from Waterford Castle in a battle of wits to the end. For most part of the front 9 the opposition held the upper hand but the faith in the team from their manager Elaine was palpable!!

Our girls took off down the back 9 with a spring in their step and picked off the opposition on the 17th green to win the match!! Well done to our ladies for a marvelous win and to Waterford Castle ladies for a superb performance, they were very gracious in their defeat.

There was a large representation of supporters from our own club on the course and they are to be admired for their decorum throughout the entire match, much appreciated by manager and team. Thank you!

We wish Elaine and the team the very best of luck for the area semi-final, dates and venue TBA. All information will be posted in our What’sApp group.

A huge thank you to our wonderful team and magnificent manager Elaine for their steadfast enthusiasm and effort put into each event!!

HANDICAP COMMITTEE

Our Handicap secretary and committee are meeting on a regular basis to discuss the input from the ladies in accordance to their handicaps. A review will be on-going throughout the year in relation to above decision.

MARKING OF CARDS

Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual

rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. It is also important not to enter a zero for stableford competitions as it interferes with standard scratch, if you blank a hole just record the shots as the computer will adjust accordingly. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.

NEW MEMBER DEALS

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Rosie and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!! FUN SCRAMBLE AND PRESENTATION

Our scramble which was scheduled for Thursday evening was postponed due to unseasonal heavy showers which were not conducive to any element of fun!!

However, the presentation of all outstanding prizes including Winter League took place in the Dugout Bar amid a large attendance. Our league sponsor, the Moorings Bar & Restaurant represented by Maria and son Tadhg did the honours of presenting the prizes.

It was a very special occasion as Maria started sponsoring us in 2013 and ongoing for the last 10 years and promised to continue as long as we can play golf. We thank you most sincerely for your continued commitment to our club, it is much appreciated!!

Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 23rd April 2023

INTER CLUB COMPETITIONS

Last weekend our Purcell team travelled the long distance to Thurles to take on the home club.  We were represented on the day by the following players John Callinan/ Tom Maguire Nicky Hayes/ Adam O Riordan, JJ Quinn/ James Darcy, Nicky Dee/Brian Dunbar, Tony Fitzgerald/Barry Doyle/ Subs Micheal Wall / Robert Walton

Unfortunately, on the day things didn’t go to plan and we lost 3/2 but huge well done to Captains Michael Kavanagh and Alan Darcy for all their hard work in overseeing the practice rounds and the players and panel for taking part.  You did yourselves and the Goldcoast Golf Club proud.

Our mixed team from the Gold Coast travelled to Williamstown yesterday to take on the home club in beautiful afternoon sunshine, teeing off at 2pm.  Some of the matches turned out to be close but in the end the Gold Coast team held fast to take the spoils.  A great victory for the Captains John Hallinan and Aisling Fennell and their players and panel.  We wish this group all the best in the next round, it was great to see so many turn out to support the team from the club.

Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 9th April 2023

JOHN WHITE CARPENTRY SPONSORED WINTER LEAGUE 2022/23

Huge congratulations to Nire/Tourneena on claiming the Winter League title for 2023 on Sunday 2nd April where they overcame a gallant an Rinn team who were going for two in a row, but it wasn’t to be. We would like to say well done to all the teams that took part over the winter, to the teams that made the quarter and semi-final stages and to all team Captains for the way they supported their fellow team members during the league. As with every year it was a huge success but the league doesn’t run so smoothly without serious work and with that in mind we have to thank Irene and Brian for all their work checking cards, uploading the scores, and helping and informing the Captains throughout the 15 weeks of the league. To the Management and green keeping staff, we say a big thank you for keeping the course in tip top condition all year round but especially during the winter months. Following a lovely meal served by the wonderful staff in the Goldcoast Hotel our presentation to the winners took place in the Dug-out bar.  Our Captain Michael Wall assisted by President Rafael Alvarez got things under way.  He spoke of the huge success of the league and he then called on our sponsor John White to say a few words.  He thanked all who took part in the league and helped to make it such a success.  He then went on to make the presentation to the Captain of the runners up team An Rinn, Darren O Droma, followed by the Captain of the winners of the league section Dungarvan, Brian O’Connor and then Captain John Hallinan of the overall winners for 2023 Nire/Tourneena. The winners of the individual scores for the league were as follows 1st Adam O Riordan 420pts, 2nd Tony Fitzgerald 416pts, 3rd Liam Browne 405pts, Gross Micheal White 393pts, 4th Jimmy O Dwyer 401pts, Joint 5th Jim Harty and John D Walsh 400pts each.  Well done to all involved.

We are pleased to announce that John White, for the 9th season, will sponsor the Winter League again. We as a club are very grateful to John for his continued sponsorship of the league and all the work he does in the club.

HOLE IN ONE

Great excitement ensued during our Gold Coasters outing on Thursday when Margaret Mulhearne, better known as the Ledge scored a hole in one on the 8th. Her playing partners Bernie and Alice got so excited we thought there had been an accident! Bernie got onto social media so fast it reached the local branch of BOI within minutes and circulated half the county in no time!

The messages posted on our What’s App group showed how delighted her fellow members were at such an achievement and so well deserved. Congratulations and well done Mag and hope you have many more, there are plenty holes left to be mastered. You are not called the Ledge for nothing!!

GOLD COASTERS

We finally got back to playing our midweek 9 Hole competition with very surprising results on the day. We had a very healthy turnout on the day as members were looking forward to getting out and hitting a ball and the rain held off until we were all back having our usual coffee and chat. Details of our excitement of the day are posted above!!

The midweek golf has proved to be very advantageous in keeping the swing active and playing other competitions in conjunction with the competition of the day!! Many thanks to Anne for continuing to organise the event with presentation of the most wonderful prizes each week!!

GIFT IDEAS

Ladies, we have a new consignment of club crested polo shirts in a range of trendy colours and club crested gilets now in stock. Our broad range of club clothing in mix and match colours look very smart and make wonderful and useful gifts and are available from the kiosk!!
