WESTGATE WINDOWS & DOORS SPONSORED GENTS WINTER LEAGUE 2024/25
Our Gents Winter League has now entered its 13th week. Thanks to everyone for making a great effort so far.
Competitions are over 18 holes, daily competition fee is €8 for the first 10 rounds entered, and €5 for all additional rounds.
Players can play on any day and as many times as they like during the qualifying period. To ensure your team’s success, each player is encouraged to complete a minimum of 10 rounds. The top 10 scores from 9 players on each team will count towards the team’s overall standing. To follow your teams progress, scores can be viewed weekly on the club website news section.

ANNUAL MASS FOR DECEASED MEMBERS
Our annual Mass for deceased members took place last Friday night at the Goldcoast Hotel. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Ned Hasset, with readings and prayers delivered by members of both the men’s and ladies’ clubs. After the Mass, refreshments were served providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for members and friends to chat and reminisce. A thank you to the Hotel staff for their service, and to everyone who helped organise this meaningful event.

CARE OF THE GREENS
To maintain the quality of our greens throughout the winter, each winter league team is assigned with responsibility for two greens. Teams are expected to repair all pitch marks on their designated greens and everyone’s cooperation will ensure the course remains in excellent condition for all players. Greens are allocated as follows.

LADY CAPTAINS DINNER
The lady Captain’s Dinner will take place in the Moorings Restaurant on Sunday 2nd Feb @ 7pm. A list is posted in the kiosk to add your name or contact our secretary Breda Veale for what promises to be a great night out. Presentation of prizes for the Winter League will take place in the Moorings on the night.

MOORINGS SPRING LEAGUE
Our league started on Sat 18th Jan with a great turnout on Saturday and Sunday from the ladies, all taking advantage of the cold but dry conditions. We have been very fortunate so far weatherwise, so fingers crossed for a successful Spring League!

GOLD COASTERS
The group took a little break from golf over the Festive period but will meet on Thursday. Weather permitting, we will get our golf played and the usual coffee and chat. All are welcome!!

MASS FOR DECEASED MEMBERS
Our Mass for deceased members and friends took place on Friday 17th Jan in the Gold coast Hotel with a great turnout. The mass was celebrated by Fr.Ned Hasset with readings and bidding prayers from the men’s and ladies clubs.
The mass was a wonderful tribute to our past members who contributed so much to the club and whose input had made us what we are today. Refreshments were served after the mass which gave everybody a chance to catch up with friends old and new.
A word of thanks to all involved in organising the event and to the Hotel staff for the attention to detail.

Huge congratulations to club member Darragh Power who has made an exciting move across the Irish Sea to sign with Cheltenham Town Football Club. He will be missed here in the Goldcoast Golf Club, but we wish him every good wish for a bright future ahead as he embarks on this new chapter in his football career. Good luck Darragh.

THE WILLOWS WIN THE MOORINGS WINTER LEAGUE
Our winter league this year kindly sponsored by the Moorings Restaurant was a resounding success due to the determination of team members and the brilliant weather which enticed everybody to the fairways.
All teams have put in a tremendous effort over the league duration in playing extra games to bump up the scores. Well done to everybody for their great team spirit which is what it’s all about.
We had some spectacular scores returned in both the 18 and 10 hole categories, your efforts are much appreciated by your team mates.
The Willows captained by Breda Veale took the honours with a fabulous score of 707pts, closely followed by the Oaks captained by Ger Hallinan with another great score of 681pts.
Well done to everyone for a superb team effort with some spectacular results. Presentation of prizes will take place in the Moorings Restaurant on Sunday 2nd February after our ladies club annual dinner.
Reminder, ladies please add your name to list in kiosk for dinner in the Moorings. Numbers are required to confirm booking.

Our little group celebrated in style last Monday when we frequented our favourite establishment to celebrate Nollaig na mBan. It was a great night out despite the inclement weather and difficult driving conditions for some!

LIONS CLUB CHRISTMAS APPEAL
Our annual appeal to support those in need in our community was once again a huge success, raising €2,500 here at the Goldcoast Golf Club.  The prize draw took place last Sunday, followed by the presentation of the money raised to Liam Ó Suipeal of the Lions Club. The presentation was made by Captains Brian Dunbar and Elaine Nash, joined by Presidents Roy Ware and Mary Fennell, Treasurer Michael Wall, Bob O’Brien, Vice-Captain Johnny Hughes, and Vice-President Alan Darcy.
We extend our gratitude to our sponsors who come on board every year without fail and to our wonderful members who generously support this fundraiser every year.

LIONS CLUB HAMPER APPEAL
Our members came up trumps again this year in their effort for the hamper appeal. The proceeds from golf entries, raffle, sale of Christmas cards and donations amounted to €2,500 which was proudly presented to the Lions club on Sunday 22/12/24.
The draw for the two beautiful hampers donated by members plus a turkey and ham took place on the day with our ladies snapping up three of the prizes. Congratulations girls!

LIONS CLUB CHRISTMAS APPEAL
A big thank you to everyone who supported this worthy cause again this year. Raffle tickets will be on sale until 10am on Sunday 22nd December. The draw for raffle prizes will take place in the kiosk at 1.30pm. This will be followed by the presentation of all monies raised by the Goldcoast Golf Club to a representative from the Lions Club Appeal.

TURKEY CROWN AND HAM PRIZE WINNERS – Please check for your name on the list. Note these items MUST be collected by 5.30pm on Friday 20th December.

WESTGATE WINDOWS & DOORS SPONSORED GENTS WINTER LEAGUE 2024/25
Our Gents Winter League has now entered its eight week. Thanks to everyone for making a great effort so far.
Qualifying rounds run until Friday, February 14th 2025. Competitions are over 18 holes, daily competition fee is €8 for the first 10 rounds entered, and €5 for all additional rounds.
Players can play on any day and as many times as they like during the qualifying period. To ensure your team’s success, each player is encouraged to complete a minimum of 10 rounds. The top 10 scores from 9 players on each team will count towards the team’s overall standing.

CARE OF THE GREENS
To maintain the quality of our greens throughout the winter, it was decided to assign each winter league team with responsibility for two greens. Teams are expected to repair all pitch marks on their designated greens and everyone’s cooperation will ensure the course remains in excellent condition for all players. Greens are allocated as follows.

Ballinacourty: 5th and 6th greens

CHARITY CHRISTMAS SCRAMBLE
Our Charity Scramble in aid of the Lions Club Hamper Appeal was played on Sunday 15th Dec in beautiful sunny conditions with a large turnout. Our ladies arrived dressed in their best Christmas outfits in an effort to win the best dressed on the day.
It was a very Festive occasion with mulled wine and beautiful home baked pastries and chocolate treats before we hit the fairways, thanks a mill to our wonderful bakers!!
Our Lady Capt. Elaine did the presentation in the hotel after the game and thanked everybody for their generous donation. All proceeds went to the Lions Club Hamper Appeal and we donated over €300 from the afternoon!!
