MARKING OF CARDS

Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. It is also important not to enter a zero for stableford competitions as it interferes with standard scratch, if you blank a hole just record the shots as the computer will adjust accordingly. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.

ON THE COURSE

Throughout the year we have asked members and visitors to repair pitch marks on the greens which has been a great success.  Now we are asking that the same attention is given to the bunkers please to make sure to rake bunkers when you are finished in them. It’s very annoying to arrive to a bunker with your ball in someone’s foot print which hasn’t been raked.  Also please refrain from using them as litter bins we gave got a number of water bottles in the bunkers over the last while, thank you for help on this matter.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Golf Ireland’s Championship Committee has reviewed the eligibility criteria for inter-club competitions for 2023 competitions. As a result of this review to be eligible to compete for their club, a member MUST have a fully developed handicap record (i.e., 20 or more scores recorded on their record). There will be no requirement initially for a set number of these scores to have been achieved in the previous calendar year – just for the player to have 20 scores from any date on their record. However, these 20 scores must be on players’ records prior to the end of 2022 for eligibility in 2023.

Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 28th August 2022

PRESIDENTS PRIZE 2022

Our Presidents held their weekend last week and what a huge success it turned out to be. Qualifying took place on Friday and Saturday in dry but windy weather.  This didn’t stop some high scoring being achieved, as Friday evening came to a close we had an over night leader Seamus O’Connell on 40 points. We then turned our attention to Saturday and by lunch time we had a new leader in Colin McArthur with 43 points, as the day drew to a close a new leader emerged from the field namely David Magnier with a huge score of 50 points.

Our final took place on Sunday morning with a shotgun start by a member and not the navy vessel that was moored in the bay as some may have thought.  There was great excitement among the players as they made their way to their tee boxes. Again great scoring was produced as our overnight leader kept his cool and returning a great score of 47 points being crowned Presidents Prize Winner for 2022 with 97 points. David Magnier was closely followed in second place by Colin McArthur with 83points and 3rd place Seamus O’Connell with 77 points.

We retired to the Hotel where we were treated to a beautiful meal and our presentation of prizes took place. Captain Seamus got things under way with his opening speech, he then called on Lady Captain Isobel who spoke very highly of our Lady President Gerardine and the glow she has brought to the club since she joined a few years ago. Lady President Gerardine then gave a lovely speech thanking everyone who had helped her along the way, she thanked her family who have been a great support to her she then presented her prize to a very popular winner from the Nire where not alone are they good at football but now have a golfing honour lady President Prize 2022 went to Mairead Ryan. Captain Seamus spoke of President Frank and how he has been so helpful in their year together always willing to help out. President Frank then took to the microphone to thank his family and his guests who had travelled to play.  He thanked the fixtures committee who did so much work over the weekend, the Hotel who as always provided such wonderful service, Irene, Brian and Mark for all their help and the ground staff for having the course in such wonderful condition.  He then presented his prize a beautiful slate replica of Granagh Castle incorporated in a lovely lamp to winner David Magnier. We would like to congratulate both Presidents Frank and Gerardine on a wonderful weekend and wish them well for the remainder of their year.

Our club classic will run between Monday 12th and Sunday 18th of September an important fund raiser for the club.  Full details next week.

PRESIDENT’S SCRAMBLE

The President’s scramble took place on Wed 17th over 13 holes with a shotgun start. The fun started when the draw was made and the excitement was electric as everybody started on their respective holes at 6pm. There were pars, birdies and eagles scored bringing in some fabulous results being read out by flashlight as the evening drew in very quickly!!

The BBQ which was manned by chef supreme Maurice and his assistant Aisling served up some delicious burgers, sausages and other treats while Aoife was in charge of refreshments which included wines and minerals to the delight of the huge crowd assembled!! Many thanks to Bob and the men’s club for their organizational skills and the very smooth running of the event, it was fantastic!!

Thanks, a mill to Maurice, Aisling and Aoife for their culinary skills and making the occasion very special!!

PRESIDENT’S PRIZE PRESENTATION

Our President’s Frank and Ger pulled out all the stops for their weekend ensuring everybody enjoyed the very special occasion!! Prosecco with strawberries plus minerals fruit and bars were served on the qualifying days, making sure everyone was hydrated and nourished while on the course.

Captain Seamus opened the proceedings speaking very highly about his President Frank and welcoming everybody to the presentation. Lady Captain Isobel introduced her President Ger and spoke very highly of her attributes and generosity. Ger then welcomed everyone including her wonderful family and said how humbled she was that so many ladies played for her prize, it was a record number which had not been seen in so many years!! She thanked the committee, some of which had a major input over the entire weekend for which she was eternally grateful!!

Ger’s prizes were absolutely stunning with a lot of insight put into their selection!! Her prizes were a mix of designer handbags, scarves and beautiful jewelry designed by Gene Kelly, Jill Graham with a special piece by Ti Sento for first prize. Mairead Ryan playing off a handicap of 22 proved a very popular winner playing spectacular golf by returning 40pts in the qualifying round and 39pts on Sunday. Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 31st July 2022

JIMMY BRUEN

Commiserations to our Bruen Team who were narrowly defeated by Clonmel Golf Club away on Saturday in the Munster Quarter finals.  In inclement conditions our team put up a great show and there were some terrific matches.  It proved to be a very close contest, but in the end, it wasn’t to be our day as the home side took the honours.  Well done to our players and management for the effort put in throughout the tournament and best of luck to Clonmel as they progress.

PRESIDENTS PRIZE

Our President Frank will host his Presidents Prize on the weekend of the 19th to 21st August 2022.  Qualifying rounds on Fri and Sat and the final on Sunday with a shotgun start. The President’s scramble takes place on Wed 17th Aug.  Timesheets opening online this week.  Full tournament details to follow.

ON THE COURSE

A few members have contacted me regarding stray balls on the course with no shout been called. It’s most important to shout fore if your ball goes in the wrong direction than which you intended for everyone’s safety.
