Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 24th April 2022

INTERCLUB TEAM CAPTAINS

As the new inter club season begins, we acknowledge the vital role that the team captain plays. It involves making a lot of tough decisions. One of the hardest calls the team captain has to make is naming his panel. This inevitably leads to disappointment for some players. We ask that all potential members of team panels respect the difficult task that the captains face. We thank our team captains and wish them and their teams the best of luck in the upcoming competitions.

THANK YOU

Thanks to Irene for the lovely welcome back last week, it’s great to be involved even if it’s only with the pen!!  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my friends and golf buddies for your get well messages and phone calls during the last few weeks.

Your support and encouragement was what I needed and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!

MARKING OF CARDS

Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. It is also important not to enter a zero for stableford competitions as it interferes with standard scratch, if you blank a hole just record the shots as the computer will adjust accordingly. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.

Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 27th March 2022

CARE OF THE GREENS

It has become noticeable that pitch marks are not been repaired on the greens. To keep our greens in excellent condition we wish to make all golfers mindful both members and visitors alike to please repair all pitch marks. Even small pitch shots into the green can damage the surface. So, it’s essential that all players are diligent in their repair of pitch marks on our beautiful greens. A correctly repaired pitch mark will recover in 24 hours, a pitch mark that’s left unrepaired will take 3 weeks to heal. Our greens are cared for in a very special way which make them some of the best in the country so with that in mind please help us to keep them in good order. We are asking that maybe we could run the repair of the greens as we did for the winter league, please consult the Goldcoast Course WhatsApp page for more information. We thank all members and visitors for their help with this upkeep of our greens.

Anyone interested in playing in the Fred Perry competition this year please contact Bob O Brien on 0868390871 or Liam Clancy on 0877937285.  To be eligible to play you must be over 55 years on the 1st January 2022, so as you can see only open to the young lads.
