PRESIDENTS PRIZES

We held our Presidents prizes on the weekend of 1st to the 3rd of September and what a weekend it turned out to be starting with our mixed scramble on Wednesday evening when a large number of members took to the fairways to play a 11 hole event with great scoring and fun been had by all.  We were treated to lovely food at the first tee box by Aisling Fennell assisted by Maurice Fennell with tasty burgers and sausages on the menu. Well done to all who organised the evening.

Our qualifying rounds took place on Friday and Saturday with Dave O’ Connor leading on Friday with 42 points and Tony Moore scoring 41pts on Saturday.  From early Sunday morning our ladies and gents assembled in the cark park wishing each other well for the final day before taking to the fairways.  There was some great scoring again in brilliant sunshine and when the dust settled Pat Kiely came out on top to win the Presidents Prize for 2023. Congratulations also to Mary Kiely on winning the Lady Presidents Prize, a great achievement after a serious injury during the year.

We all gathered in the Goldcoast Hotel for some beautiful food as always, we say thank you to the management and staff of the Hotel for their great service. THE KIELY’S WIN PRESIDENT’S PRIZES

Our Lady President Eilo and Rafa held their very special weekend in glorious sunshine over the three days. Eilo, Rafa and members of the committees spent many hours of preparation to ensure their big occasion went without a hitch!!

All went to plan, and after a shotgun start on Sunday, everyone sojourned to the hotel for food and presentation of Prizes. The proceedings were opened by Captain Michael Wall who thanked everyone for playing and attending the presentation and introduced our Presidents Rafa and Eilo.

Lady Captain Rosie started the ladies presentation with a lovely tribute to our Lady President and her many accolades in her tenure as a member of the club!! Her prizes were a beautiful array of golf, pebble art and hand crafted jewellery by Alan D’Alton who crafted the winning prize!!

Lady President Eilo spoke very graciously about her role and thanked Ger for asking her to be her Vice President. She spoke of the honour it was to represent the club and thanked everybody for all the help received and all the good wishes bestowed on her over the weekend!!

With the announcement of the prize winners and a count back between 1st and 2nd place our h/cap secretary Mary Kiely was finally announced the winner to a rousing applause!! Mary is only back to golf after sustaining a major injury to her foot and it was a wonderful comeback for her. She accepted her prize with an emotional

speech, thanking Eilo and everyone who made the weekend such a success!!

President Rafa then continued with his speech thanking everyone and pointing out all the first’s for the club during the year!! He spoke about all the support from his family, committee and members, which he appreciated so much!!

His presentation of prizes started with Past President going to John White and the ultimate trophy going to Pat Kiely with a resounding round of applause. Well Done Pat!!

CARE OF GREENS AND BUNKERS

We would like to ask our players to please repair pitch marks on the greens, even if they are not your own!! Also please rake bunkers, now that they are back in play.

HANDICAP COMMITTEE

Our Handicap secretary and committee are meeting on a regular basis to discuss the input from the ladies in accordance to their handicaps. A review will be on-going throughout the year in relation to above decision.

MARKING OF CARDS

Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. It is also important not to enter a zero for stableford competitions as it interferes with standard scratch, if you blank a hole just record the shots as the computer will adjust accordingly. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.

NEW MEMBER DEALS

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Rosie and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course

and unrivalled scenery!! There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.
