INTER CLUB SENIOR FOURSOMES
Our Senior Foursomes team travelled to Muskerry on Sunday for a marathon match play event. Our girls took on Monkstown in the morning match, teeing off at 9.30am and after a riveting match and superb golf they secured a very safe win for the Gold Coast.
After lunch and a short break, our ladies again took to the fairways at 2.30pm in gale force winds and heavy sporadic showers to take on their next opponents, Douglas who had a bye for the morning match.
In spite of the inclement weather and starting a second 18 holes our ladies played spectacular golf, with the first match won on the 16th and the last going to last putt on the 18th. Congratulations and well done to our wonderful team and managers for a brilliant display of precision golf against two Cork clubs on home territory, we are very proud of you!!
Team : Katie Kiely/Karen Darcy, Irene Lynch/Sarah Moynihan, Aisling Fennell/ Roisin Quinlivan.
The on-course commentary was provided by Elaine and helpers which was so engaging that you felt like you were there in person, Sky Sports could do with your whirlwind second by second reporting!! Thanks a mill Elaine, and all this happening on your birthday, hope you had time to celebrate- Happy Birthday!!!

STEPHEN GREENE – A TRIBUTE
The news of Stephen’s passing came as a great shock to the members of the club and all who knew him. He was a man of many talents which he wasn’t slow in relating to anybody who would listen, but he actually was!
His biggest passion was hurling for Mount Sion in his younger days and his devotion to the club long after he retired from the game. The medals and trophies that he won are testament to his prowess on the field, by all accounts he was a force to be reckoned with. When Stephen took up golf, it got the same treatment as the hurling – he aimed to be better and became a fine golfer.
In 2013 I became Stephen’s partner in crime, as we were both President’s of the club. It was a whirlwind year of activities where Stephen endeared himself to everyone as he was the life and soul of every occasion, he will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of his company which I am now so delighted to have been part of.
His funeral on Tuesday was testament to the regard in which he was held, his coffin was flanked by members of Mount Sion Hurling Club from Thompsons Funeral Home and Waterford Fire Brigade led the hearse to the doors of St.Paul’s Church. Guards of Honour were provided by Mount Sion Hurling Club, Waterford Fire Services and Gold Coast Golf Club.
Our heartfelt condolences to his loving partner Irene, his son Paul, daughter Lorraine, grandchildren and the extended Greene family, his many friends and neighbours both in Waterford and Kinsale on your sad loss. Rest In Peace Stephen, you were a rare diamond who will be fondly remembered.

EASTER SCRAMBLE
Our annual Easter Scramble which was scheduled to take place on Sat 4th April had to be abandoned due to Storm Davy. Our Lady Captain Bridge had a fun filled day organised and was so disappointed again due to the unpredictable weather. However, we in the ladies club have the ability to dust ourselves off and start again!

OPEN TEAM EVENTS
Our first Open team event will take place on Wednesday 6th May and subsequent events will be 10th June, 22nd July. Our Play In Pink Day is scheduled for Sunday 27th September. We are giving you plenty notice to invite your friends and golf buddies and get your teams in for the above events.
