MICK WHITE FOURSOMES
This competition took place yesterday in brilliant sunshine when 29 pairings took to the fairways with some great scoring returned. The following 24 teams will now head to the match play section of this competition for a place in the final. Yesterday was also an opportunity for the Purcell selectors Micheal Kavanagh and Alan Darcy and Bruen selectors John White and Mattie Murray to scan the talent available to them.
This is the list of the 24 pairings going through to the next round. The matchplay draw will be displayed in the computer room and posted on the WhatsApp group.

COURSE HANDICAP CHANGES FROM 1st APRIL
The “Course Rating minus Par” change is an update to the World Handicap System (WHS) that took effect in Great Britain and Ireland on April 1st 2024. It’s a new way of calculating handicaps, where the difference between the Course Rating and the Par of the course is taken into account. Here’s how it works: Course Rating is the measure of the difficulty of a course for a scratch golfer. Par is the standard number of strokes an expert golfer is expected to make for a particular course. Under the new system, your Course Handicap is calculated using the following formula:
Course Handicap=Handicap Index × (113÷Slope Rating) + (Course Rating-Par) If the Course Rating is higher than the Par, you’ll receive additional strokes. Conversely, if the Par is higher, you’ll lose strokes. This adjustment aims to make the game fairer and allows players to compete from different tees without needing an adjustment. Updated course handicap tables are displayed at the first tee noticeboard or can be checked by consulting your Golf Ireland App.
