Gold Coast Golf Club Notes 23rd September

Over 100 members, past and present, sat down to a four course meal in the Gold Coast on Sunday last to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Club. Our special guest on the day was Jim Long, Chairman of the Munster Branch and in a comprehensive address he thanked the Gold Coast for their contribution to golf and for the help they provided to the Munster Branch over a long number of years. John McGrath spoke of the development of the course and mentioned many of the founding members of the Gold Coast Golf Club. Captains Pat Power and Ruth Hannigan thanked all the Officers who had contributed so much during the past 25 years. The whole event was expertly handled by our President, Michael Wall who turned out to be a wonderful and witty MC on the day. Thanks to Willie Bloomer for his help with photographs and to all who helped in any way to mark the occasion.

Play in Pink Day

Our Play in Pink Day for Breast Cancer Awareness which was held on Sunday 15th Sept was a resounding success with everybody turned out in various shades of pink!! The scramble format was very well received by all levels of golfers, especially the beginners who had a ball – the entire event was great fun, which was the aim of the day!! Presentation of prizes and raffle took place immediately after the golf, which evolved into much laughter as many of the men went home with beautifully wrapped gifts in baby pink with bows attached!! All prizes were sponsored and wrapped by a very generous lady member, which left no clue as to their contents!!

The ladies club raised €700 on the day, and we are awaiting totals from the men’s club, we are very much indebted to our wonderful sponsor, to our wonderful men who forfeited their Blue Day to support us and of course our own ladies who supported the cause. Well Done Everybody!!
