Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 9th June 2024

This competition took place yesterday in the Goldcoast Golf Club where our team took on near neighbours Dungarvan in a tough battle.  But in the end the spoils went to Dungarvan.  We wish them well in the next round. We thank our team managers Bob O’Brien and Liam Clancy for all the hard work over the last few weeks and the players who did themselves and the club proud.  Well done to John Hallinan and Tony Moore, David O’Connor and Colin McArthur, Tommy Long and Dave O’Connor, Roy Ware and Tony Fitzgerald, Kieran Cullinan and Lar Whelan. Reserves Micheal Wall, Brian Dunbar, Micheal Kavanagh, John White and Noel McCann

This Mixed Fourball team travelled away to Waterford Castle on Saturday last to take part in a new competition which began this year.  The team put up a good performance but were unlucky on the day and the win went the way of Waterford Castle on their home course.  We wish them all the best in next round of this competition.  We thank John Hallinan and Aisling Fennell who took on this team as well as managing the other Mixed team.  The hard work you both put in is very much appreciated. The Team was as follows Darragh Power and Geraldine Hallahan, Michael Wall and Ruth Hannigan, Micheal Kelleher and Miriam Mathews, Nicholas Power and Rosemary Murphy.

We wish this team and Management all the best next Saturday against Faithlegg in the Gold Coast at 2pm.  All support on the day would be greatly appreciated.

Please remember to repair all divots on the fairways and pitch marks on the greens to keep our course in great condition. Please check with kiosk regarding current conditions of play.

We ask members and visitors alike to please adhere to our club dress code. If unsure please consult with the kiosk staff.

Our team who were away to Williamstown did a magnificent job in fending off a strong opposition. First home was Aine 4/3, next home was Caroline 2/1 and Emma took her lady on the ninth clinching a win for the home team.

The second leg was the return visit to our home club, which took place on Sunday 9th June. Another thrilling match ensued in very cold and blustery conditions.

First to romp home was Mary Fennell 5/4 and next in was Mary French 4/3, the final went to a playoff with Aine taking to the fairways again and clinching a win for home club on the 2nd playoff hole. This is Aine’s second time securing a win on a playoff and I think she should be commended for doing so, well done Aine, you’re a star!

Congratulations to team managers Breda V, Anne, players and caddies on a wonderful result.

Our girls travelled to Tipperary on Sunday 9th to take on their home team. Our team consisted of Irene/Mary K, Aisling/Rosie, Fiona/Karen and subs Esther/Miriam.

Our girls put up a brilliant battle against a very strong Tipp side to secure victory. First to win on the 18th was Fiona/Karen, second in off the 19th was Aisling/Rosie and Irene/Mary K took their ladies to the 17th which was a spectacular result for all of them.

Congratulations to the Managers Bridge and Alice and to the wonderful team for a magnificent result, we are very proud of you.   A great day for the Goldcoast with two wins for the ladies!!

Our fabulous Intermediate team with their Manager Mary K travel to Lismore GC on Wed 12th June to take on their team in the next leg of the tournament. Wishing our ladies and Mary K the very best of Gold Coast luck on the day, support would be appreciated!!
