GOLDCOAST NOTES 9^th AUGUST 2020

PIERCE PURCELL SHIELD 

The Gold Coast take on Williamstown next Saturday 15th August at 3pm.  We have 3 matches away and 2 in the Gold Coast. Any support from members would be greatly appreciated at either venue by the panel who have put in a great effort over the past 6 weeks.

JIMMY BRUEN COMPETITION  

The Gold Coast team played Tramore at on Saturday 8^th August.  Michael Kavanagh and John Enright…. Tom White and Jody Halinan  played in the Goldcoast GC…. Colin McArthur and Paul Linehan… John Hallinan and Darren O’Droma… Neil Dermody and John Walsh played at Tramore GC.  Subs in Goldcoast;  Seanie Leinhan & Dec Kiely and in Tramore Kiki Cullinan & Jimmy O’ Dwyer.  Thanks to all members who came along to support the team on the day.   WhatsApp was used to great effect keeping everyone updated with scores.  A big thank you to all involved in doing this as it was brilliant to be able to keep up with matches.

Hi All.  On behalf of Lady Captain Ann and myself, I would like to thank all the members and guests who so generously supported our Dungarvan Community Hospital fund raiser last weekend.  We raised €865.00 which is a tremendous amount.  This will be presented to Paula French who is the administrator for the Hospital in Dungarvan.  So once again thank you all.   John White , Captain GoldCoast G C.

CLUB COMMUNICATION 

If you are reading these weekly notes from the website, that is good.  However, if you give your email address to the kiosk you can receive these notes by email.  Also, WhatsApp is being widely used now by the club and members to keep people informed of events and, like last Saturday, provide live updates from competitions.  So, if you haven’t already downloaded the App why not do it this week.  It will prove very worthwhile.

UWE SIEGEMUND RIP 

Club member Uwe Siegemund sadly passed away recently after a sudden illness.  Uwe, originally from Germany, enjoyed his golf at the Goldcoast and will be missed by his golfing friends.  To Uwe’s wife Eileen and son Willi family and friends, we offer our deepest sympathy.  Ar Dheis de go raibh a anam.

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME 

We are delighted to welcome so many new members to the club just now. Committee and Club Members are making themselves available over the next few weeks to accompany new members on the course, helping with getting handicaps organised, going through the basic rules and the requirements on the course. Members at the Gold Coast will do everything they can to make you welcome so feel free to put your name down anytime with anyone and enjoy the camaraderie, the game, and the stunning scenery.

SPECIAL OFFER TO GAA PLAYERS UNDER 36 YEARS OLD 

The Gold Coast has had a long association with the GAA down through the years and as most of you know they now have a full-sized playing pitch available in the resort. To continue with this association, the management of the Golf Club decided that it would make a special price for membership of the Golf Club for players who currently play GAA and are under the age of thirty six.

On production of a valid GAA Club Membership Card, a player can now join the Gold Coast from now until 1st April 2021 for a once off payment of €250. This figure includes GUI and Club levies. This offer is available to members of all GAA Clubs in Waterford. Players under the age of 25 and in full time education can avail of Student Membership for €180.

FANTASTIC INTRODUCTORY OFFERS FOR NEW MEMBERS

OPEN 18 HOLES S/F COMPETITION GENTS/LADIES EVERY TUESDAY & FRIDAY 

The ladies are now in a privileged position in being able to play in two open competitions per week. The Tuesday Open 18 Hole which was originally a seniors competition is now open to all ages and is proving to be a great attraction for visitors, the men’s Friday Open 18 Hole is now open to ladies giving us a choice of competitions to play in.

ONGOING COMPETITIONS 

Our on-going competitions started on Wed 22nd July giving our ladies a choice of 10 or 18 hole format. The entry fee will be €3 for 10 hole and €5 for 18 hole competitions and entry sheet is available in downstairs kiosk.

RESPECT FOR FRONTLINE WORKERS 

As a result of an ingenious idea by our Captains John and Anne to play competitions in support of our frontline workers over the August bank Holiday weekend a donation box was in situ and a very healthy €860 + was donated. The respective ladies and gents clubs have decided to round it up to €1,000 to be presented to Paula French, Director of Nursing at Dungarvan Community Hospital. Thanks to everyone for their generosity!!

MATCH-PLAY SINGLES SPONSORED BY SHAWS DEPARTMENT STORES 

Our singles match-play pairings have been posted to our WhatsApp group, please make yourselves aware of the draw and play by dates as first round is to be completed by 16^th Aug. Good luck to all and enjoy a sporting match!!! Entry is €5 and sheet is posted in downstairs kiosk, envelopes are provided for entry fees.

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES 

There will be a presentation of prizes for outstanding club competitions and two open days on Thursday 20^th Aug in the kiosk at 6pm. Winners will be notified.

ILGU MUNSTER FIXTURES 

Munster Cup, Nenagh GC on Mon 17^th Aug, team of three to represent the club. H/cap 20 and under, no step down, format is 18 H stroke, entries close on Tue 11^th Aug.

Eileen Murphy Perpetual Memorial Trophy,

The ladies who will represent us in Cork GC on Mon 28^th Sept. for this competition will be Rosie Murphy and Elaine Nash, two very strong players and we wish them both the very best of luck on the day!!

Eleanor Tivy Cup

The team representing us in the Eleanor Tivy cup in Adare Manor GC on Mon 24^th Aug is Anne Purcell, Bernie Morrissey and Angela O’Connor.  We wish our ladies the very best of luck on the day and mostly to enjoy the occasion!!

LADIES OUTING 

To give you something to look forward to; a proposed outing has been organised to Ballykisteen GC on Sat 29^th August, the deal consists of 1 night BB, golf and dinner for €110 sharing or €140 single. If you don’t wish to stay overnight, golf and dinner is €60, Tee time on Sat is starting 1.30pm. The sheet is posted in downstairs kiosk, please tick relevant section when adding your name, a deposit of €50 is payable before 1^st Aug to secure the booking. Please put deposit in envelope with your details addressed to Bernie Morrissey and hand into kiosk. The committee members are all very excited about this venture and hope it will be a great day for the ladies, a big Thank You to Bernie for organising this fantastic deal!!
