Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 6th November 2022

This year’s winter league is now in full swing and runs until the 10th February 2023. The format this year is 9 teams of 12 players with 10 rounds to be played. 6 teams out of the 9 will go through to the play offs. Best of luck to the 9 Captains and their teams.  Its promises to be a very competitive winter league going on previous years. A huge thanks must go to our sponsor again this year John White. We ask that all players write the name of their team on the cards to make it easy for the kiosk staff to add your score to the spreadsheet. Teams are currently on display on the club website, news section. Team scores will be updated here once a week.

The AGM of the Gold Coast Men’s Club will take place in the Gold Coast Hotel on Sunday November 20th at 5.00pm. Notice of motions for the AGM must be given to the Club Secretary by November 13th. Notice of nominations for Club Officers and members of the general committee must be made, in writing, to the Club Secretary by November 13th. The sheets, showing nominations for committee and motions received for the AGM, will be posted in the kiosk shortly after November 13th.

Winter rules have now come in to play so it is marking and placing within 6 inches no nearer the hole on both fairways and rough. Bunkers are also GUR for the duration of Winter League. Please check with kiosk staff for further updates. Please remember to repair all plugmarks on the greens, with the weather turning wet, balls will mark the surface.  Also please shout fore if your ball goes astray.  I myself had a close one last Sunday on the course as I was nearly hit with no shout coming from a tee box.

Players need to be aware that you can’t for any reason mark your own card while playing your round of golf you must give your card to your playing partner who will mark your card and you will mark his/hers until round is complete. Only then will you get your card back to enter the computer. Spot checks of cards will be carried out by our course ranger.

The Gold coast Golf Club are delighted again to be associated with the Lions Club Christmas Appeal and our Lions Club week will run from Mon. 28th November to Sunday 4th December. All members will be encouraged to come along and play and contribute by entering competitions or buying raffle tickets. Your support will help raise much needed funds to help those less well off in our society. The Gold coast members have always been generous in their support and we know this will continue again this year for this very worthy cause.

This event will take place on 12th November in the Gold Coast Hotel where a sit-down meal will be served and our end of year prizes will be presented. Tickets for the event are priced at €28. A great night to catch up with friends, hope to see you all there.

From 31st March 2022 an automated process will be put in place to apply an automatic penalty score if a score is pre-registered but not submitted. This rule applies to both General Play and official Competitions. The player is now totally responsible for submitting their score once it has been pre-registered. If they fail to do so without providing the committee with a valid reason, an automated penalty score will be applied. Mandatory Handicap on Scorecards. From 31st March 2022, Golf Ireland requires that the player’s Handicap Index is verified before playing and is the required handicap on a scorecard

Our Winter League, again kindly sponsored by the Moorings Bar & Restaurant got underway on Monday 31st Oct. Due to the inclemency of the weather last week the entries were slow, but with the sunshine breaking through over the weekend many of our ladies took to the fairways to get their first game in!!

Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us in the next few weeks to keep the league running to its full potential!!

Entry for this event is €40 which includes a €10 registration and €30 for the first 10 rounds which are obligatory from each member, and is payable in advance of your first game!! Terms and conditions are posted on notice board and WhatsApp group; please make yourself aware of same before play. Envelopes are supplied in kiosk for entry fees, please state clearly: date, your name, your team and which league, i.e. 10 or 18 holes. Enclose €40 in envelope and hand into kiosk only!!

The midweek 9 Hole is proving to be quite popular with new and long term members coming together for a social outing with a cuppa and catch-up afterwards. We have changed the day to Thursday to facilitate our Bridge Club ladies, our next outing will be Thur 10th Nov at 12.00 due to time change and we are hoping to run this event through the winter with a change of tee times to take advantage of the daylight hours. This is an ideal opportunity to play the 10 Hole Winter League in

conjunction with the competition of the day. Registration is 12pm on the day with Anne or Mary. Please support, as these midweek events are fantastic to keep you swinging and enjoying the game!!

Our annual dinner will take place in the Gold Coast Hotel on Saturday 12th November at 6pm. As always this is a lovely social gathering where notable awards are presented, including match play events, Order of Merit and Golfer of the Year. All members are welcome to attend and the cost is €28, tickets available in kiosk.

Our AGM will take place on Friday 18th November at 8pm in the Gold Coast Hotel with presentation of all outstanding prizes at 7pm on the night.

It is imperative that all ladies attend the AGM, as this is your opportunity to air your views for the year ahead. Nomination sheet for incoming officers and committee will be posted in kiosk during the week.

As with previous years, our club is again appealing to its members to remember those less fortunate for the forthcoming festive season. The ladies and men’s clubs will be donating all the entries from competitions and participating in the raffle for the beautiful hampers and other prizes donated by members, to which we are entirely grateful!! Tickets will be on sale in the kiosk, please support. The ladies will be holding a fun scramble for the event, date to be announced which will be posted in kiosk and WhatsApp group.

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Isobel and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!! There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including free tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.
