Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 6th December 2020

Gold Coast Golf Club Notes 6th December 2020

WELCOME BACK TO OUR MEMBERS AND GUESTS

Tuesday 1st December saw the course re-opening as level five restrictions were lifted and level three introduced.  Great to be back playing and seeing the course so busy again.  Well done to the ground staff who had the course in such excellent condition for members to enjoy.  Judging how well the course looked, a minute wasn’t lost by the staff in the six-week period. As golf resumes, we hope that golfers enjoy their play but continue to be vigilant in adhering to the Covid 19 safety protocols.

Golfers must not travel outside their county of residence to play golf.

From December 18th to January 6th, golfers can travel to another county to play as restrictions are eased over the Christmas period.

All golf activities should be organised on the basis of arrival-play-depart without delay.

Tee times are booked in advance online or over the telephone.

In addition, golf clubs and golfers are asked to ensure members, visitors and staff with colds or any symptoms of COVID-19 must stay away from the golf course/clubhouse

Physical distancing rules are observed by all members and their guests at all times in the car park and on the course.

Players are instructed not to touch the flag or flagstick.

Enjoy your golf and stay safe.

LIONS CLUB CHRISTMAS APPEAL

Our Captains are once again appealing to all members to come along and play and contribute by entering competitions or buying raffle tickets.  The appeal will run from Monday 7th to Sunday 13th December and is open to members and visitors and proceeds from the competition are going to support this worthy cause.  The prizes in the raffle are 1st Hamper, 2nd Turkey, 3rd Ham (Cost 3 strips tickets €5)

WORLD HANDICAPPING SYSTEM at www.golfireland.ie

While the lockdown was imposed the new World Handicap System was introduced.  Please go to the Golf Ireland website and find your handicap index.  The WHS is an averaging system based using the best 8 of the last 20 scores on your record.

To access your handicap information, you must register and create a new account at www.golfireland.ie using your eight-digit CDH number and 4-digit PIN, both of which are printed on the rear of your GUI/ILGU Member Card.

HOW TO USE YOUR NEW WHS HANDICAP INDEX

Course & Slope Rating tables are located at the Club.  You simply have to choose the tees you are playing off that day and cross reference your Handicap Index on the Course & Slope Rating table to ascertain your Course Handicap. Different tees on the same course could have varying slope ratings. Your Course Handicap determines the number of strokes you give or receive off the tee set you intend to play from red, yellow, white or blue.

Then, depending on the format you are playing (singles, fourball etc.) you will apply a handicap allowance to your course handicap which will present you with your playing handicap.

For example: The recommended handicap allowance for individual stroke play events is 95% which means a player could have a handicap index of 18.2, course handicap of 20 but a playing handicap of 19.
More information on the World Handicap System can be found at www.golfnet.ie/whs

HOW DID I DO APP

The facility now exists for members to sign in and input their scores at the Club for competitions through their phone on Howdidido mobile App.  Members are encouraged to register for this service on the HowdidiIdo website.
