Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 5th July 2020

Hi everyone and welcome.  The buzz on Tuesday morning was great with golfers at the Gold Coast ready to enter competition for the first time in a couple of months.  Some of the old heads were there but it was so refreshing to see so many of our new members testing out their handicaps in competition.  Great numbers taking part at the weekend too and lovely seeing players out on the course no matter where you were on the course.  As members here we have brilliant people looking after the course and it was looking amazing at the weekend.  Well done to everyone involved behind the scenes so us golfers can enjoy a course in such wonderful condition.  Below is a fixture list for the year.  Good luck to everyone.

The Captain’s Prize will take place on the August Bank Holiday weekend. Qualifying rounds will be played on Friday 31st July, Saturday August 1st with the final round taking place with a shotgun start on Sunday August 2nd. The competition will be played in stroke-play. RULE OF THE WEEK          Green rulings

Once you have reached the green, there are a couple of key Rules of which you need to be aware. Once the ball comes to rest on the putting surface you may mark it with a coin, or disk, lift and clean it but remember to replace in the exact spot. You may repair any pitch-marks – not just yours – other damage such as spike marks attached to the green but not on your line of putt, a playing partner’s putt, or an extension of it, before the completion of the hole. You can have the flagstick either attended at all times but the ball must not strike it. (Rule 17) (Covid 19 has created a situation where the flagstick must remain in place and not be touched, the rest of this ruling remains as stated)

We are delighted to welcome so many new members to the club just now. Committee and Club Members are making themselves available over the next few weeks to accompany new members on the course.  Helping with getting handicaps organised, going through the basic rules and the requirements on the course. Members at the Gold Coast will do everything they can to make you welcome so feel free to put your name down anytime with anyone and enjoy the camaraderie, the game, and the stunning scenery.

Just a note to remind members that for many years now, all three golf clubs in Dungarvan have operated a reciprocal arrangement where Monday to Friday, members of Gold coast Golf Club can play Dungarvan or West Waterford (or vice versa) for a reduced green fee of €15 now. This does not apply weekends or for competitions. Ring the office on 058 44055 to make a reservation.

The Gold Coast has had a long association with the GAA down through the years and as most of you know they now have a full-sized playing pitch available in the resort. To continue with this association, the management of the Golf Club has now decided that it would make a special price for membership of the Golf Club for players who currently play GAA and are under the age of thirty six.

On production of a valid GAA Club Membership Card, a player can now join the Gold Coast from now until 1st April 2021 for a once off payment of €250. This figure includes GUI and Club levies. This offer is available to members of all GAA Clubs in Waterford. Players under the age of 25 and in full time education can avail of Student Membership for €180.

Here at the Goldcoast Golf Club we have a fantastic Gents Full Member rate for new members of only €450 inclusive of GUI fees. We also have, an extremely attractive, Gents Senior (65+) rate for new members which is only €350 including GUI fees.
