JOHN WHITE CARPENTRY SPONSORED WINTER LEAGUE 2022/23
This year’s winter league is in full swing, now entering its 6th week with some fantastic golf being played. Well done to everyone for getting out there and putting in a big effort for their team. With the festive season near, competition prizes over the coming weeks are turkeys crowns and hams. The League runs until the 10th February 2023 so there is plenty opportunity to get in the required rounds.
The format this year is 9 teams of 12 players with 10 rounds to be played. 6 teams out of the 9 will go through to the play offs. We ask that all players write the name of their team on the cards to make it easy for the kiosk staff to add your score to the spreadsheet. A huge thank you again to our sponsor John White. It promises to be a very competitive winter league, scores can be viewed weekly on the club website news section. Best of luck to the 9 Captains and their teams.
ON THE COURSE
We are reaping the rewards now for the drainage work and fairway work carried out last year on the course. It’s a great comfort to know we can play 18 holes of golf all year round, well done to all involved. Winter rules are in play so it is marking and placing within 6 inches no nearer the hole on both fairways and rough. Bunkers are also GUR for the duration of Winter League. Please check with kiosk staff for further updates.
Members are reminded of the importance of shouting fore if your ball goes astray on the golf course, so for everyone’s safety please continue to shout fore if your ball goes in the wrong direction than you intended it to.
CARE OF THE GREENS
To keep our greens in excellent condition we wish to make golfers mindful to please repair all pitch marks. At this time of year, even small pitch shots into the green can damage the surface. To bring extra focus on repairing these marks, greens have been assigned to each of the Gents Winter League teams as follows:
1st and 10th Green: Abbeyside
2nd and 11th Green: An Rinn
3rd and 12th Green: Ballinacourty
4th and 13th Green: Comeragh
5th and 14th Green: Cork
6th and 15th Green: Dungarvan
7th and 16th Green: Dunhill
8th and 17th Green: Nire/Tourneena
9th and 18th Green: Stradbally
Thank you for your continued co-operation.
RECIPROCAL GOLF
Members of the three local golf clubs Goldcoast, Dungarvan and West Watetford are reminded they can avail of reciprocal golf for only €15 greenfees on weekdays. This is a great opportunity to play our neighbouring courses for fantastic value. To make a booking please telephone the offices of the respective clubs.
MARKING OF CARDS
Players need to be aware that you can’t for any reason mark your own card while playing your round of golf you must give your card to your playing partner who will mark your card and you will mark his/hers until round is complete. Only then will you get your card back to enter in to the computer.

MOORINGS WINTER LEAGUE
Our Winter League, again kindly sponsored by the Moorings Bar & Restaurant is underway with well over a 100 games played to date with some fantastic scores recorded showing the commitment of the team members. Entries are picking up with players taking advantage of the good days which we are hoping will continue for the next few weeks!! Well done to all who have put in a tremendous effort to date!
GOLD COASTERS
We had a great turnout last Thursday, and the proverbial cuppa and chat afterwards. The topic of conversation was the Christmas decorations which brought on howls of laughter due to the fact that nothing had yet been done in any of the households present!!
Our next outing will be Thursday 8th and will be our last outing for this year. Please join us for a festive get together and a cuppa afterwards, golf will be 12.00 on the day, if you cannot make it please join us at 2.30pm for the cuppa and hopefully some festive treats!! This is an ideal opportunity to play the 10 Hole Winter League in conjunction with the competition of the day. Registration is 12pm on the day with Anne or Mary. Please support, as these midweek events are fantastic to keep you swinging and enjoying the game!!
SHAWS CHRISTMAS SCRAMBLE
Our Christmas scramble kindly sponsored by Shaw’s Department Store over 10 holes was played on Sunday 4th Dec. We ran this in conjunction with the Lion’s Club Hamper Appeal, so all proceeds went to the cause!! This year again, we are so grateful to Shaw’s in Dungarvan for their very generous sponsorship and the beautiful array of Christmas products to choose from. Thank you to all our sponsors who help us year after year, we could not do it without you!! More info next week on this event with results and much more!!
LIONS CLUB HAMPER APPEAL
As with previous years, our club is again appealing to its members to remember those less fortunate for the forthcoming festive season. The ladies and men’s clubs will be donating all the entries from competitions and participating in the raffle for the beautiful hampers and other prizes donated by members, to which we are entirely grateful!! Tickets will be on sale in the kiosk, please support.
NEW MEMBER DEALS
Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Rosie and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!! There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.
