JOHN WHITE CARPENTRY SPONSORED WINTER LEAGUE 2023/24

The Winter League qualifying section is now up and running and will continue between Saturday October 28th, 2023, and Friday February 23rd, 2024. There will be 8 teams of 13. Entry fee is €25.00. All players must have their entry fee paid before they play their first round. Daily competition fee is €7.00 for the first ten entries and €5.00 for all subsequent entries. Players can play on any day and as many times as they want during the qualifying section. The best 10 rounds from 9 players on each team will count. Substitutes are allowed during the league section and will be allocated from the top of the list of available players. The minimum period for use of the substitute will be for three weeks. A substitute will count as one with the player being replaced. The list of substitute players will be administered by the kiosk on a first in, first out basis.

SCORING SYSTEM FOR GENTS WINTER LEAGUE

A new system will be introduced this year for the Gents Winter League.  Martin Morris has put in a tremendous amount of work in coming up with the system which will automatically control all the scores for the Winter League and will produce results and penalty cuts throughout the league as follows: Players will be divided into 4 categories with 26 players in each category. All players will play off their present handicap for the duration of the league and the 90 per cent cut operated last year will be set at 95 per cent this year. The following penalties will apply: For all scores over 40 points, category 1 (lowest handicaps) will have a penalty of .1 for every point above 40 points deducted from all future scores during the league. Category 2 players will have a penalty of .15 deducted, category 3 players will a penalty of .2 and category 4 players will have a penalty of .25. This is the suggestion being put forward as a balanced and fair system which should help to spread the prizes and create a more balanced league.

CONDOLENCES

We offer our heartfelt condolences to John, Tom and Micheal White and Richard Walsh on the sad passing of their mother and grandmother Mary, which occurred during the week.  Mary was a regular guest at our end of year dinners and many presentations down through the years.  She also attended our annual mass for deceased members of our club including her late husband Micheal who was also a member of the Goldcoast.  She will be sadly missed by all.  She was a true lady in every sense of the word. May God Have Mercy on her gentle soul.  RIP.
