Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 28th November 2021

John white Carpentry sponsored winter league Captains held a meeting on Monday night to discuss changes to this year’s winter league. The following are the changes approved by the club committee, the best eight scores achieved by an individual player, will count towards the team score. In the case of a substitute being required, the minimum period will be 3 weeks. The substitute will be taken from the top of the list of substitutes available. There can only be one lady member on each team.

In order to reflect the reduced length of the course, bunkers GUR and preferred lies for the winter months, from Saturday 27th November players will play from 88% of their Course Handicap rounded.  The competition software and label printout will indicate a person’s playing handicap on the day of entry.

The Goldcoast Golf Club are delighted again to be associated with the Lions Club Christmas Appeal.  Our Captains are appealing to all members to come along and play and contribute by entering competitions or buying raffle tickets.  Club competition proceeds between 6th to 12th December with be donated by the Club and Company.  In conjunction with this we are also running a Raffle with an array of prizes.

Your competition entries, donations and raffle ticket purchases will help raise much needed funds to help those less well off in our society.  The Goldcoast members have always been generous in their support and we know this will continue again for this very worthy cause.

Raffle in Aid of Lions Club: 1st prize Hamper kindly sponsored by an anonymous member, 2nd prize Hamper sponsored by Tim O’Driscoll, 3rd prize a Turkey and 4th a Ham sponsored by Premium Butchers, and other prizes of wine. Raffle tickets are on sale in the Kiosk, 3 strips of tickets €5.

Winter rules are now in operation with placing both on fairways and rough, mats at tee boxes have also been put out, please enquire with kiosk staff for further local rules.

Flag Poles maybe be removed now on the greens remember Golf Union Ireland Covid 19 guidelines must be adhered to at all times i.e. one person to remove and replace flag and hand sanitizer must be used at all times.

I have been contacted by some members about slow play on the course we must try and make the game enjoyable for everyone both members and visitors alike remember the 3min rule for searching for a lost ball.

Our Club Captain Seamus had a lovely reunion recently with a former pal from his schooldays in the North Mon. In a discussion that came about by chance on the day of the President’s prize, the possibility emerged that a former close pal of Seamus, whom he had not met since his schooldays, was a member in our club. Following a few phone calls, it was confirmed that Victor Mullins was indeed the school friend that Seamus had not met since they left school 51 years ago. I am reliably told that when the two met around the 17th hole two weeks ago, their golf partners were left waiting around, with time for coffee, while the two lads relived their youth. Seamus and Victor played in a three ball today. The third member of the group had to remind them, on a number of occasions, that they were about to play off the wrong tee as they were so engaged in conversation. On another occasion he informed them both, that they needed to reverse about thirty yards so as to play their next shot. It was lovely to be a part of this special reunion of “The Boys of North Mon”.

This competition took place in the Gold Coast Golf Club last Sunday 21st November 56 players from across the south east took to course with some great feedback coming on the condition of the course and the greens from the players which is always nice to hear. The results are as follows 1st Joe Tierney Callan 44pts.  2nd Paddy Donovan Callan 43pts  Gross Stan Leslie Waterford 29pts  4th Michael Power Waterford 41pts.  5th Tony Horne Clonmel 40pts  Back 9 Phil Kinsella West Waterford 19pts.  Next round will take place in Waterford Golf Club on Sunday 12th December. Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and

most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. It is also important not to enter a zero for stableford competitions as it interferes with standard scratch, if you blank a hole just record the shots as the computer will adjust accordingly. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Anne and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!! There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.

The management and staff have implemented all the safety procedures to protect both staff and members who wish to play golf at the Gold Coast GC. Please

keep yourself informed of new notifications within the club!
