Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 28th June 2020

GOLDCOAST GOLF NOTES 28th JUNE 2020

Hi everyone and welcome.  From today Monday we will be getting back to things being more normal for our golfers.  At the Gold Coast we will have competitions now every Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Anybody still needing a handicap just put your name down to play and any member going out will mark your card.  For those new members going out for the first time with their new handicap enjoy the experience.  There will be a committee meeting on Tuesday evening so some fine tuning will be done then relating to planning for the summer and hopefully we will be in a position to keep you informed here in the notes as things progress.

Below is a brief synopsis of what is allowed for Golf Clubs as part of Phase Three easings of Covid 19:

PHASE 3 COMMENCING ON JUNE 29th IN REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

*Four-balls allowed at 10 minute intervals

*Competition golf & visitors permitted

*Restaurants and Bars operating as Restaurants may open under strict guidelines

*Travel restrictions lifted

Golf ‘s Protocol, in Phase 3, has been relaxed considerably to permit clubs to include four-balls on their timesheets at 10-minute intervals. Competitions are now permitted, both closed and open with visitors allowed to pay green fees and compete in open competitions.

As we enter Phase 3 of the phased re-introduction of golf, there remains a major responsibility on golf clubs and golfers to ensure that our sport is conducted in a safe and responsible manner.

Full adherence to the provisions of this Protocol is essential. Golf was in the very privileged position to have been allowed to resume in Phase 1 and this return was based on the sport being able to demonstrate to government that it can take place in a safe, socially distant manner.

The high level of compliance shown thus far is a credit to the sport, but these efforts must be redoubled as we begin competitions and welcome visitors for the first time in several months.

To ensure golf is played safely, golfers must adhere to the Protocols published by the GUI and ILGU.
These guidelines are available for viewing on www.golfnet.ie

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME

We are delighted to welcome so many new members to the club just now. Committee and Club Members will be making themselves available over the next few weeks to accompany new members on the course.  Helping with getting handicaps organised, going through the basic rules and the requirements on the course. Members at the Gold Coast will do everything they can to make you welcome so feel free to put your name down anytime with anyone and enjoy the camaraderie, the game, and the stunning scenery.

Members old and new are reminded to check out the notice board adjacent to the first tee regarding local rules, dress codes etc.  On Tuesday and Wednesday evening (5pm-7pm) are members evening where members will be able to play with some of the new members to facilitate getting handicaps. Please book your time on the BRS system. We will be doing this for the next few weeks.

RULE FOR THE WEEK  Avoid playing the wrong ball

Sounds blindingly obvious but unless you mark your ball before you start, there is a danger – with so many golf balls similarly stamped – you may mistake yours for another player’s.   Playing the wrong ball in match-play could mean loss of hole in singles and will be a two-stroke penalty in stroke-play. To avoid such a penalty, then get marking your ball more clearly with distinctive personalised symbols.    But if you’re unsure the ball – in the rough, for example – is yours, notify you’re playing partners, mark it carefully with a tee peg, lift but do not clean it (only to identify it) and replace in the identical spot you’re within your rights. (Rule 15-1)

RECIPROCAL GREENFEE ARRANGEMENT WITH DUNGARVAN AND WEST WATERFORD GOLF CLUBS

Just a note to remind members that for many years now, all three golf clubs in Dungarvan have operated a reciprocal arrangement where Monday to Friday, members of Gold coast Golf Club can play Dungarvan or West Waterford (or vice versa) for a reduced green fee of €15 now.
