Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 26th May 2024

Our Captains David and Elaine will hold their Captains prize this weekend 31st May to 2nd of June.  The activities commence on Wednesday evening with their Drive-in at 5pm followed by the Captain’s Scramble at 5 15pm. with a barbeque by chefs Aisling and Maurice and all members are looking forward to a fun evening.   Qualifying will take place on both Friday and Saturday with the final on Sunday morning at 10am with a shot gun start. Following on from this, the presentation of prizes and a meal will take place in the Goldcoast Hotel at 2.30 pm. We wish our two very popular Captains all the best for their weekend.

Our team travelled to Lismore to take on the home team last Saturday on a wet miserable day. While our lads put up a great performance in difficult conditions in the end the home team took the spoils.  Well done to all involved for your commitment to the team and the club. We thank Managers John White and Martin Murray and players David O’Connor and Darragh Power, Lar Whelan and Michael Kavanagh, John White and Roy Ware, Darren Williams and Tommy Long.  Well done all.

This competition was played at home yesterday Sunday against Waterford Castle and I am glad to report the home team won the match with a great performance under the watchful eye of Neil Dermody.  The team was as follows John Kiely, John Hallihan, John White, Darren Williams, Colin McArthur.  Reserves Kevin Walsh and Micheal Kavanagh.

We send congratulations to our club member Darragh Power on his first goal scored this season with Waterford FC.  He has a great career ahead of him, well done again.

We ask members and visitors alike to please adhere to our club dress code. If unsure please consult with the kiosk staff.

Please remember to repair all divots on the fairways and pitch marks on the greens. Please check with Kiosk regarding current conditions of play. We look forward a great year of golf here on our little gem of a course.

The notes that go out each week on the paper and on the Clubs Social Media page is for all the members of the club. If there is something you wish to be included in the notes, please contact Irene or Brian in the kiosk or the P.R.O. on 083 4862771.

Our Captain David and Lady Captain Elaine are busy preparing for their biggest event of the year where they pull out the stops for their very special week-end.

This year our Captain’s Drive-in will take place at 5pm, followed by the Captain’s Scramble and BBQ which is always a wonderful occasion for everyone.

We are hoping for a large turnout on the night to support our Captains and enjoy the occasion which is a wonderful prelude to the Captain’s Weekend!! Wishing both David and Elaine the best of everything for their special

occasion, and hoping for great golf, great fun and lots and lots of sunshine!!!!

Time sheets are open for the scramble and qualifying rounds on Friday and Saturday, please add your name a.s.a.p

Please Note : Drive-In @5pm

We had our first golf outing to Castlemartyr Golf Resort organised by Bernie on Thursday 23rd May. The format was a Champagne scramble which we played in beautiful sunny conditions. Everybody was delighted with the weather, the course and the beautiful food available in the Clubhouse, thanks a mill Bernie for a wonderful and successful day.

We will be back to our normal Thursday after the Captain’s weekend.

Our Senior Cup team took on Tipperary on home soil on Sunday 26th in extreme wind and heavy rain. Our girls had a great battle on their hands against a very strong Tipp team who gave nothing away.  First home with a win after going down the 19th playing a 1 h/cap golfer was Aisling, Fiona won her match on the 16th and Mary K took her lady all the way to the 21st hole before succumbing to a stronger opponent.

Our girls played tremendous golf at their level in horrendous conditions and we are very proud of them, their caddies and managers Elaine and Anne!! Well done to Tipperary and we wish them well in their next leg of the tournament and we thank them for a very sporting game!!

Congratulations to our wonderful Lady Captain “Hurricane” Elaine for her on-course reporting on every hole to the final putt, Sky Sports couldn’t do it better!

Our fabulous Intermediate team under the guidance of manager Mary K had a great win over Waterford Castle on home soil on Friday 24th with a 3/1 to home team. Our girls did their usual and kept us on our toes with nail biting chips and putts to win back holes from the clutches of our opponents

By the time our ladies got to the back nine, they were on a different level and played spectacular golf to win the accolade. Congrats and well done Mary K and her wonderful team and wishing you all the very best on the next leg of the tournament.

This year we have entered the Silver and Bronze Medal Competition. The h/cap categories for each are as follows: Silver – h/cap index up to and including 20.0, Bronze – h/cap index of 20.1 and higher. The club winner for each will be the player who returns the lowest aggregate of 3 net scores in stroke competitions in both Silver and Bronze categories from the 1st April to 31st July.  Both winners will represent the club in the Regional Final in W/Waterford and subsequently onto Final!!

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Elaine or any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course which is blessed with unrivalled mountain and coastal scenery!!

There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.
