GOLD COAST GOLF CLUB NOTES 26th JULY 2020

At a special committee meeting convened on Tuesday evening addressed by our Captain John White it was decided not to have a Captain’s Prize or President’s Prize this year considering the Covid 19 situation.  The statement released by the Captain’s is as follows:-  “Following much deliberation Lady Captain Anne, President Brian, and Men’s Captain John have taken the difficult decision to postpone our respective weekends until 2021.  We made the decision against the backdrop of the Covid 19 pandemic and the new normal we find ourselves in.  The health and well-being of our members and guests are at the heart of our decision.  It will not be possible to have a social gathering on our weekends which we believe is an integral part of the events.  We hope people understand the decision and the reasons for doing so.  We hope to see you all in 2021 in what we hope will be better days ahead.”   Anne, Brian, John.

RESPECT FOR FRONTLINE WORKERS

Captain John is sponsoring a special competition on Sunday 2nd August in dedication to the wonderful work done by all our front-line workers during the Covid 19 Pandemic.  The competition will be played off the white tees, stableford and will count towards Golfer Of The Year.   Members are asked to wear their Club Colours on the day if possible.   (See also Ladies Notes).

RULE OF THE WEEK:-            NO WAY BACK FROM OUT OF BOUNGS (OB)

Knowing what to do when your ball sails out of bounds is crucial to a beginner. A ball hit beyond the confines of the course (usually marked by white stakes) must be re-played from the original position adding a penalty of one stroke.

The scorecard of any course should have its boundaries clearly marked or described. If you believe a shot has gone OB or into a water hazard always play a provisional and declare it.

You have three minutes to search for it and if indeed it is lost you saved valuable time continuing with the provisional ball despite a one stroke penalty. If your original is subsequently found in bounds or dry within three minutes of the point of search you must continue with the original ball.

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME

We are delighted to welcome so many new members to the club just now. Committee and Club Members will be making themselves available to accompany new members on the course, helping with getting handicaps organised, going through the basic rules and the requirements on the course. Members at the Gold Coast will do everything they can to make you welcome so feel free to put your name down anytime with anyone and enjoy the camaraderie, the game, and the stunning scenery.
