Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 26th February 2023

JOHN WHITE CARPENTRY WINTER LEAGUE 2022/23

Our John White Carpentry sponsored winter league has now reached Quarter final stages and as every year was a huge success even after losing playing time due to frosty weather at the start of 2023.  We would like to say a big thank you to all our Winter league Captains and their teams for taking part.  Well done to Dungarvan who topped the league section, closely followed by Dunhill.  In 3rd place was An Rinn, 4th Stradbally, 5th Nire and in 6th place was Comeragh.  Hard luck to the three remaining teams that didn’t make the playoffs, always next year lads.  The Quarter final lineup is as follows: An Rinn v Comeragh will tee off next Sunday 5th March at 9am followed by the second quarter final between Stradbally v Nire at 10.15am.  Sunday 12th March is the date of the Semi final.  Best of luck to all the Quarter finalists on Sunday.

CAPTAINS’ DRIVE-IN

Our Captains’ drive in took place last Sunday morning.  What a crowd gathered to see our Captains Michael and Rosie get our golfing year in the Goldcoast off for 2023.  Our Lady Captain was a little over enthusiastic and we had as they call in racing, a false start!  On been recalled she spilt the fairway as did Michael, obviously all his late night practice paid off.  We then had a 18 hole scramble where some great scores been returned by our mixed teams.  It was off to the Hotel then for lovely colcannon and ribs where our prestation of prizes took place.  We would like to thank the Hotel as always for their brilliant service and wish Captain Michael Wall and Lady Captain Rosemary Murphy every best wish for 2023.

We had a marvellous turnout again this week for the Gold Coasters, with the last rounds being played for their league teams. There was a lot of banter and hilarity in the process of adding up the scores for the respective teams!! The midweek golf has proved to be very advantageous in keeping the swing active and playing other competitions in conjunction with the competition of the day!! Many thanks to Anne and Co for organising a wonderful surprise birthday cake for me and continuing to organise the event with presentation of wonderful prizes each week!!
