Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 25th September 2022

CLUB CLASSIC 2022

Our Club Classic event this year was a huge success with over 170 teams participating for which we say a huge thank you to each and everyone who took part.  Without this support the event wouldn’t have been so well supported. There are some people we need to thank, firstly all our tee box sponsors and our overall prizes sponsors.  Secondly our ladies committee for coming on board with their input and support, the kiosk staff for all their help over the week the ground keeping staff for their work.  Thank you to the fixtures committee for their efforts in making it such a success and finally the management team for all your help as always for everything you do for all events at the Gold Coast Golf Club. The presentation of prizes took place last Friday 23rd September in the Gold Coast Hotel to the following winners.

WINTER LEAGUE

We don’t like thinking about the winter months, but we are heading for winter league time once more so with that in mind, a sheet will be available in the kiosk for people wishing to take part this year.

SOUTH EAST JUNIOR ALLIANCE

This competition kicks off again on Sunday the 9th October in Callan Golf Club if you are interested in playing please contact Alan Darcy on 0876987387.

ON THE COURSE

Throughout the year we have asked members and visitors to repair pitch marks on the greens which has been a great success now we are asking that the same attention is given to the bunkers please to make sure to rake bunkers when you are finished in them it’s very annoying to arrive to a bunker with your ball in someone’s foot print which hasn’t been raked also please refrain from using them as litter bins we gave got a number of water bottles in the bunkers over the last while thank you for help on this matter.

A few members have contacted me regarding stray balls on the course with no shout been called its most important to shout fore if your ball goes in the wrong direction than which you intended for everyone’s safety

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Golf Ireland’s Championship Committee has reviewed the eligibility criteria for inter-club competitions for 2023 competitions. As a result of this review to be eligible to compete for their club, a member MUST have a fully developed handicap record (i.e., 20 or more scores recorded on their record). There will be no requirement initially for a set number of these scores to have been achieved in the previous calendar year – just for the player to have 20 scores from any date on their record. However, these 20 scores must be on players’ records prior to the end of 2022 for eligibility in 2023.

GOLF IRELAND HANDICAPPING CHANGES FROM 31ST MARCH 2022

As has been previously communicated to all members of Golf Ireland via email, here is a short summary of the golfers responsibilities in relation to the non-return of scores and the inclusion of your verified handicap index on your scorecard.

Non Return of completed scorecards

From 31st March 2022 an automated process will be put in place to apply an automatic penalty score if a score is pre-registered but not submitted. This rule applies to both General Play and official Competitions.

The player is now totally responsible for submitting their score once it has been pre-registered. If they fail to do so without providing the committee with a valid reason, an automated penalty score will be applied.

Mandatory Handicap on Scorecards.

From 31st March 2022, Golf Ireland requires that the player’s Handicap Index is verified before playing and is the required handicap on a scorecard.

MARKING OF CARDS

Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. It is also important not to enter a zero for stableford competitions as it interferes with standard scratch, if you blank a hole just record the shots as the computer will adjust accordingly. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.

NEW MEMBER DEALS

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Isobel and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!! There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.
