Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 23rd January 2022

JOHN WHITE CARPENTRY WINTER LEAGUE

The John White Carpentry sponsored winter league is now in its final week and will finish on this Friday 28th January.  Scoring is very high with still time for your team to make the matchplay quarter finals on Sunday 6th February so a big push is on this week to get there. The team standings are displayed in the news section of the Club website.

The semi finals will take place on Sunday 13th February with the grand final of the 2021/2022 league taking place on Sunday 20th February.  Best of luck to all the teams and just a gentle reminder to all players please repair all pitch marks on the greens and put your team name on your card to make it easy for the kiosk staff to put up your score.

COURSE UPGRADE

We have to compliment the management and the greens staff for the continuing work on the course with the laying of some new paths and the upgrading of the old ones.  It it great to see this work been carried out allowing us to continue playing 18 holes on our beautiful golf course right through the winter months.

CAPTAINS DRIVE-IN

Our Captains Seamus and Isobel will get the 2022 season up and running here at the Gold Coast Golf Club when they both spilt the 1st fairway with their drives on Sunday 6th March.  Best of luck to both Captains for the season ahead.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Ger Bagge and his wife Ann Marie on the birth of baby Cathal during the week, hopefully another member of the club in years to come.

SOUTH EAST JUNIOR ALLIANCE

This competition is continuing in 2022 courses and dates to be announced soon if you are interested in taking part please contact Alan Darcy on 087 6987387.

SEAMUS POWERS INTO WORLDS TOP 50

Seamus Power continued his rich vein of form in the PGA Tour over the weekend.  His 14th placed finish in the American Express Tournament firmly establishes him in the worlds top 50 players. This is a remarkable achievement by the Waterford man who is up there with the best and defeating stellar fields. We wish Seamus continued success in his career as he reaches new heights.

RORY REMEMBERS US

In a recent interview about Seamus Power’s deserving rise in the world rankings, Rory McIlroy fondly remembers competing with the talented West Waterford junior at Goldcoast Golf Club.  As rising stars, Rory and Seamus both took part in U-15 Munster Boys hosted by Goldcoast Golf Club.  We’re delighted to know that we formed part of their great golfing journeys!

MARKING OF CARDS

Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual

rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. It is also important not to enter a zero for stableford competitions as it interferes with standard scratch, if you blank a hole just record the shots as the computer will adjust accordingly. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.

NEW MEMBER DEALS

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Isobel and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!! There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.

The management and staff have implemented all the safety procedures to protect both staff and members who wish to play golf at the Gold Coast GC. Please keep yourself informed of new notifications within the club!
