Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 22nd October 2023

The Winter League qualifying section will run between Saturday October 28th, 2023, and

Friday February 23rd 2024.

There will be 8 teams of 13. Entry fee is €25.00. All players must have their entry fee paid before they play their first round.

Daily competition fee is €7.00 for the first ten entries and €5.00 for all subsequent entries.

Players can play on any day and as many times as they want during the qualifying section.

The best 10 rounds from 9 players on each team will count.

Substitutes are allowed during the league section and will be allocated from the top of the list of available players. The minimum period for use of the substitute will be for three weeks. A substitute will count as one with the player being replaced. The list of substitute players will be administered by the kiosk on a first in, first out basis.

  1. The match play section will consist of quarterfinals, semi-finals and final. The top 6 teams will qualify for this section of the winter league. The top 2 will automatically go into the semi-finals while the other 4 will play the quarter finals.
  2. Up to three matches can be played before quarter final and semi-final dates by agreement of both team captains.
  3. A maximum of one match may be played in the final before the Sunday. This will be allowed only in exceptional circumstances. The final decision on this rests with the Winter League Sub Committee.
  4. If a match is played before the official match date, the result of this match stands in the event of matches on official date being cancelled.
  5. If a match has started i.e., a ball has been struck in the first game, then the match has started and in the event of any cancellation, the teams will line out as selected when the match is resumed later.
  6. All matches must be played to a conclusion.

A new system will be introduced this year for the Gents Winter League.  Martin Morris has put in a tremendous amount of work in coming up with the system which will automatically control all the scores for the Winter League and will produce results and penalty cuts throughout the league as follows: Players will be divided into 4 categories with 26 players in each category. All players will play off their present handicap for the duration of the league and the 90 per cent cut operated last year will be set at 95 per cent this year. The following penalties will apply: For all scores over 40 points, category 1 (lowest handicaps) will have a penalty of .1 for every point above 40 points deducted from all future scores during the league. Category 2 players will have a penalty of .15 deducted, category 3 players will a penalty of .2 and category 4 players will have a penalty of .25. This is the suggestion being put forward as a balanced and fair system which should help to spread the prizes and create a more balanced league.

We offer our condolences to Alan Darcy and family on the sad passing of his uncle Virgil Power which occurred during the week. May God have on his gentle soul. RIP.

Winter rules are now in operation.  Due to the inclement weather mats are now on 11 holes with placing on both fairways and rough. Please be aware of the yellow stakes around the greens to prevent damage by trollies. Please check with kiosk staff for further updates.
