The World Handicap System was launched in November 2020.  Please go to the Golf Ireland website and find your handicap index.  The WHS is an averaging system based using the best 8 of the last 20 scores on your record.  To access your handicap information, you must register and create a new account at using your eight-digit CDH number and 4-digit PIN, both of which are printed on the rear of your GUI/ILGU Member Card.  You can also now download the new Golf Ireland App which will also enable you to view your own handicap index and playing record.  We would urge all members to register now and familiarise themselves with the WHS system.

The facility exists for members to sign in and input their scores at the Club for competitions through their phone on the Howdidido mobile App.  Members are encouraged to register for this service on the HowdidiIdo website.

We had another week of great scores from our weekend and Open team event with the ladies coming in with fabulous scores especially on Sunday in very inclement conditions. Some shooting ladies. Well done!!

We have started an ongoing 9 hole for the beginners with 2 cards to count, entry is €3 and all details are posted in downstairs kiosk. Enjoy!!

A fun 9 hole scramble was organised by Elaine to get everybody involved by integrating our beginners and seasoned golfers for a fun event on Thursday 19th Aug. The anticipation amongst the ladies was electric with everyone looking forward to meeting and playing with our new and not so new members!!

Elaine left no stone unturned in her organising skills to make sure it was a fun event including bets on who had the longest drive and the pot being distributed amongst the lucky few, that event alone caused some hilarity!! On arrival everybody received a gift of a ball and tee, making sure you had all the requirements for the game including glorious sunshine which reflected the organiser’s sunny disposition. Well done Elaine for a fantastic evening which was very evident from the wonderful comments posted on our WhatsApp group!!

Winners; Rebecca Kavanagh, Ellen Foley, Breda Veale 29pts

Longest Drive; Rosie Murphy

Bet Winners; Mary Kiely, Inseun Kim, Eileen Goode

It has been decided by the committee to categorise the handicaps for first and second rounds depending on entry. A new sheet has been posted in computer room for this event, so please add your name ASAP as draw is being made soon.

Our club outing this year will be a day event due to some constraints of Covid 19, and we are off to New Ross on Sat 4th Sept which is only a 50 min drive from Dungarvan. Tee times from 1pm and green fees are €30, food will be available from their Bar Menu after golf. Sheet is now posted in computer room, so please add your name ASAP. We would like to see our new members and beginners join us again this year, it will be a fun and relaxing day and the format will be a scramble!! A big thank you to Bernie and Rosie of our social committee for organising this event and we will be assured of a great day out!!

Wishing our ladies and gents the very best of luck in their respective matches which is now approaching semi-final stage!!

Commiserations to our team who played against Waterford Castle on Friday evening with three pairings at home and two in the Castle. Although the weather conditions were quite inclement, our team did not give up without a fight and played super golf, but had to concede to a superior team. We wish Waterford Castle the very best of luck going forward and our heartiest congrats to our fantastic ladies and gents and to their wonderful managers Mary and Kiki, well done everyone!!

Our last Open team event will be on Monday 20th Sept and we are back to the very popular Champagne Scramble. Further details of this event will be posted on our WhatsApp group and these notes.

A female panel is needed to help with our Junior Sector which will commence on Sunday evenings, start date to be confirmed. Garda vetting and a safeguarding course 1 is a requirement and will be organised online by the club.

If you can spare some time, please add your name to the panel, your help will be much appreciated.

Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and

most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. It is also important not to enter a zero for stableford competitions as it interferes with standard scratch, if you blank a hole just record the shots as the computer will adjust accordingly. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.

The guidelines for now are members with no restriction on households permitted per booking for social or club competitions. Meanwhile all regulations have to be adhered to when entering and playing your round. Members please make yourselves aware of the changing guidelines in relation to golf from the government and Golf Ireland, information regarding any changes will be posted on

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Anne and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!! There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.

The management and staff have implemented all the safety procedures to protect both staff and members who wish to play golf at the Gold Coast GC. Please keep yourself informed of new notifications within the club.
