Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 1st January 2023

HAPPY NEW YEAR

New Years greetings to you and your families from the Gold Coast Golf Club. We would like to wish all members of the club, committees, staff, sponsors and visitors a safe and healthy 2023.

JOHN WHITE CARPENTRY SPONSORED WINTER LEAGUE 2022/23

This year’s winter league has now entered its 10th week.  The League runs until the 10th February 2023 so there is plenty opportunity to get in the required rounds. The format is 9 teams of 12 players with 10 rounds to be played. 6 teams out of the 9 will go through to the play offs. A huge thank you again to our sponsor John White.

CARE OF THE GREENS

To keep our greens in excellent condition we wish to make golfers mindful to please repair all pitch marks.  At this time of year, even small pitch shots into the green can damage the surface.  To bring extra focus on repairing these marks, greens have been assigned to each of the Gents Winter League teams as follows:

1st and 10th Green: Abbeyside

2nd and 11th Green: An Rinn

3rd and 12th Green: Ballinacourty

4th and 13th Green: Comeragh

5th and 14th Green: Cork

6th and 15th Green: Dungarvan

7th and 16th Green: Dunhill

8th and 17th Green: Nire/Tourneena

9th and 18th Green: Stradbally

Thank you for your continued co-operation.

RECIPROCAL GOLF

Members of the three local golf clubs Goldcoast, Dungarvan and West Waterford are reminded they can avail of reciprocal golf for only €15 greenfees on weekdays.  This is a great opportunity to play our neighbouring courses for fantastic value.  To make a booking please telephone the offices of the respective clubs.

MARKING OF CARDS

Players need to be aware that you can’t for any reason mark your own card while playing your round of golf you must give your card to your playing partner who will mark your card and you will mark his/hers until round is complete.  Only then will you get your card back to enter in to the computer.

NEW YEAR GREETINGS

As P.R.O. of the ladies club, I wish our Captain Michael, President Rafael, officers and members of the men’s Club a very happy and successful New Year and look forward to working with you for 2023.

A big thank you to Irene and Brian in the kiosk who keep everything running smoothly on a daily basis, and to Rob and his band of merry men who are maintaining the course to an impeccable standard!!

We are so lucky to have a wonderful and hard working ladies committee, our grateful thanks to our outgoing Captain Isobel and President Ger who gave us a fantastic year of golf!!

Our Captain Rosie and President Eilo had a great start to their year with the implementation of changes which will be of benefit to all and will make for a fun filled year!! Looking forward to serving on committee again this year and being part of the wonderful ladies club.

Sponsors are a very important and integral part of any club, and we have been extremely lucky to have people who continue to support us on a yearly basis. We are eternally grateful to all our sponsors and wish you all a wonderful, peaceful and prosperous New Year.

Special New Year Greetings to Ann and the McGrath family for the coming year, and hoping it will bring you peace and joy!!

GIFT IDEAS

Ladies, we have a new consignment of beautiful beanie hats now in stock, colours have been selected to compliment our new golf clothing additions which will keep you warm and smart for the winter season!! Our broad range of club clothing in mix and match colours make wonderful and useful gifts!!

MOORINGS WINTER LEAGUE

Due to severe frost followed by torrential showers, high winds and a mixed bag of incredible conditions our league has come to a standstill but the forecast looks somewhat promising for next few weeks. Hopefully the weather will improve and we will take to the fairways again to shed the extra pounds accumulated over the Festive Season!!

Entries are now halfway or better from many of the team members with players taking advantage of the good days and getting their rounds played before the New Year. Well done to all who have put in a tremendous effort to date!

LIONS CLUB HAMPER APPEAL

As with previous years, our club again exceeded expectations and presented the local branch of the Lions Club with a cheque for €2,700 donated by members.

NEW MEMBER DEALS

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Rosie and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!! There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.
