Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 19th May 2024

Goldcoast played Tramore at home on Saturday last in this competition where our team put up a great performance, just coming up short on the day. We thank the Management team of Alan Darcy and Micheal Kavanagh and the team and panel for all their hard work over the last few weeks.  We wish Tramore well in the next round.

This competition took place also last Saturday here at the Gold Coast when we played Williamstown Golf Club in a sporting game.  Once again, the panel put on a great display of golf coming out on top and claiming victory and progressing to the next round.  Under the management of John Hallinan and Aisling Fennell the team was as follows Micheal Kavanagh and Katie Kiely, John White and Briget Walsh, Royco Ware and Karen Darcy, Darren Williams and Martina Corkery. Reserves John Hallinan and Gillian Cashman. Best of luck to all in the next round

Our team made the journey over the border to Cobh Golf Club yesterday Sunday to take on the home team in brilliant sunshine.  As the dark clouds rolled in with every clap of thunder the Gold Coast team claimed victory with a 3/2 win and march on to meet Dungarvan at home in a few weeks.  Under the watchful eye of Bob O’Brien and Liam Clancy the panel on the day was as follows Micheal Kavanagh and Tony Fitzgerald, John White and John Hallinan, Colin McArthur and David (Doc) O’Connor, Tommy Long and Dave O’Connor, Lar Whealan and Kieran Cullinan.  Reserves Noel McCann and Tony Moore, Micheal Wall and Brian Dunbar.  Best of luck in the next round.

This new competition takes place next Saturday against Waterford Castle away.  Best of luck to all involved.

Our team travel to Lismore next Saturday to take on the home team. We wish the Management led by John White and Martin Murray and their panel all the best.  Hopefully as many members as possible will travel to show their support.

Our Captain David and Lady Captain Elaine are busy preparing for their biggest event of the year where they pull out the stops for their very special week-end.

This year our Captain’s Drive-in will take place in conjunction with the Captain’s Scramble and BBQ which is always a wonderful occasion for everyone.

We are hoping a lot more ladies will participate and enjoy the occasion as well as supporting our wonderful Captain Elaine for her Drive-In!!

We had a great turnout again on Thursday as we played our 10 holes in glorious sunshine and perfect conditions. The coffee and chat in the bar afterwards was very informative as we went through the details of our our first golf outing to Castlemartyr Golf Resort organised by Bernie on Thursday 23rd May.

Thanks again to Anne for organising our event every week and producing the most fabulous prizes. I think at this stage everybody looks forward to Thursday!

1st Margaret Mulhearne 18-1 =17pts

2nd Inseun Kim 17pts on C/B

Our boys took on Tramore in the Pierce Purcell match play on Saturday in perfect golfing conditions on home soil.

A great battle was fought against a very strong opposition, but our boys did not relinquish any shots until the final putt on the 17th. Congratulations to Tramore and wishing them all the very best of luck for the next round.

Our mixed team under the management of John and Aisling took on Williamstown on home soil on Saturday. As usual, our pairings gave us sparkling golf and nail-biting finishes on many holes, keeping us on our toes.

We had a fantastic win over our opponents in a hard fought battle and would like to commend them for a very sporting game and wish them the very best of luck in their future endeavours!!

Our fabulous Intermediate team who had a great win over Faithlegg on home soil, now take on their near neighbours Waterford Castle again on home course on Friday 24th May.

Wishing Mary K and her team the very best on the day. Support would be greatly appreciated!!

This year we have entered the Silver and Bronze Medal Competition. The h/cap categories for each are as follows: Silver – h/cap index up to and including 20.0, Bronze – h/cap index of 20.1 and higher. The club winner for each will be the player who returns the lowest aggregate of 3 net scores in stroke competitions in both Silver and Bronze categories from the 1st April to 31st July.

Both winners will represent the club in the Regional Final in W/Waterford and subsequently onto Final!!

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Elaine or any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course which is blessed with unrivalled mountain and coastal scenery!!
