CAPTAINS PRIZE 2023

The Qualifying for the main prizes took place on Friday and Saturday and the final on Sunday morning with a shot gun start at 10am followed by food and a packed presentation in the Goldcoast Hotel. A fantastic weekend was enjoyed by all culminating in two worthy winners Colin McArthur and Gillian Cashman who played tremendous golf to claim the coveted prizes.  A full report of the Captains weekend will be in next weeks notes.

CAPTAIN’S SCRAMBLE

The Captain’s scramble took place on Wed 14th Jun in glorious sunshine with an unexpected large entry. What was originally to be a nine hole event turned into a 13 hole to facilitate the large turnout.

The shotgun start with multiple teams off every hole soon filled up the fairways with fun, laughter and banter between the teams!!

The fabulous BBQ under the stewardship of Head Chef Maurice and Commis Chef Aisling kept the golfers sustained as they passed the station. Our resident Sommelier Bob was in charge of wines and refreshments which were needed for re-hydration!!

The presentation of prizes by our Captain Michael took place in the carpark in the twilight hours! The scores returned reflected the fabulous condition of the course with multiple birdies and a couple of eagles on some cards, results are posted in men’s notes. Congratulations to all who featured in the prizes, and thanks a mill to all involved in making it such an enjoyable event!!!

GILLIAN WINS CAPTAIN’S PRIZE

Our Captain’s Prize Weekend hosted by our very popular Captains Michael and Rosie got underway on Friday in adverse weather conditions with on-going heavy showers. Despite the conditions there were some brilliant scores returned, Saturday proved to be a much better day which reflected the steady returns for the qualifying round. Thankfully Sunday was much more weather friendly with beautiful sunny conditions for the shotgun start at 10am.

The players got off their respective tees with no hold-ups which resulted in fantastic low scores from both the ladies and gents. Our ladies battled it out with several in contention going out to take the trophy, and two having the same score of 138 on Sunday. Gillian’s score of 64 playing off 29 secured the coveted prize with Ger playing off 19 coming in second place. The excitement was riveting as the results were revealed to announce Gillian as the worthy winner, congrats to both for a fantastic round of golf, and well done to Gillian!!

COLIN WINS MICHAEL’S PRIZE

The men brought in some very low scores over the weekend with my fellow PRO Nicky bringing in a 67 on Friday in very inclement conditions, making him the leader in the clubhouse!! Colin playing off 8 brought in a remarkable 61 on Saturday and matched it with a 68 on Sunday to secure the prize. Not to be outdone our Nicky brought in another 67 on Sunday totaling a marvelous score of 134. Well done to our ladies and gents who participated in the weekend of golf and congratulations to all who featured in the prizes and to our winners Gillian and Colin!!

APPRECIATION

The ladies committee are very appreciative of the help they received from the men over the weekend in collating and posting of scores and displaying the results. It made the weekend workload easier to navigate and reduce the stress levels associated with these events. Thanks a mill guys, ye are fantastic!!

A vote of thanks to Rob and his team of Merry Men for their never ending challenge ensuing the superb condition of the course, it was immaculate and the greens were just perfect!!

CONDOLENCES

The Lady Captain Rosie and members wish to convey their heartfelt condolences to the family of our fellow member Breda Veale on the sad passing of her beloved mother Margaret last week and for the sad loss of her uncle John this week. Thinking of you all at this very difficult time!!

May Margaret and John Rest In Peace
