JOHN MCGRATH MEMORIAL GOLF DAY
If Carlsberg did golf, then they would run the John McGrath Charity day as this year’s event was probably the best one ever. Glorious sunshine with a slight breeze was the order of the day.
The buzz around the kiosk from 8.15 on was electric as players gathered to find out the format of the competition and what tees they would be playing off. The catering crews were also arriving and getting things ready to feed the hungry golfers as they arrived at the food stations. By 9am all the players were on the course and in action. The smell of the BBQ was wafting over the course and tempting all the golfers, especially those who missed breakfast.
As the day progressed the craic improved, and golfers were enjoying the culinary expertise of those providing the burgers, sausages at the 9th tee and the sandwiches and tea and coffee at the kiosk. Some unbelievable golf was being played by most teams and this was reflected in the scoring we were treated to a beautiful meal in the hotel where the presentation took place.
We were joined by the McGrath family and by Fr Jerry Condon PP, we also had Paula French from Dungarvan Community Hospital who gave us an insight to where the monies raised would be going. Sean McGrath then spoke of his father the late John McGrath and how he would be so happy to see the turn out for this special day. Both our Captains spoke thanking every one for taking part a special word of thanks to Bob O’Brien and his committee John White, Maurice Fennell and Michael Wall, our kiosk staff for their help and green keeping staff for having the course in fabulous condition as always, and to the ladies committee for the beautiful sandwiches they provided. Thanks also to Tim O’Driscoll and family for looking after the food on the 9th, Michael Wall for the burgers and sausages, Liam Clancy for Food Transportation, Currans Foods for the buns and rolls, the hotel staff for their hard work and anyone else that helped in any way it is much appreciated so a big thank you to everyone.

CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Rosie Murphy (11) who came third with a very respectable score of 35pts in the Irish Golfer Series, Ladies Section last Sunday in Dromoland Castle GC. While it is a fabulous course, it’s not for the feint hearted and requires precision golf, no problem to our Rosie!! Her prize was the new Taylor Made Rescue Wood, so watch this space!!
Congratulations also to Lorraine Troy who won the Annual Ladies Open 36 hole competition at the Cunnigar Pitch & Putt Club last week after claiming Best Nett in the National Senior Stroke Play in Fermoy P&P Club recently!! This is another lady on fire, especially with the short game, it’s great to have this calibre of player in the club and we wish them every success for the year. Well Done!!

JOHN MCGRATH MEMORIAL GOLF DAY
On Wednesday 13th July, the club held a 36 hole golf event in honour of our founder John McGrath with a massive entry of 22 teams. This was a fun event, with food and refreshments in plentiful supply throughout the 36 holes ranging from tea/coffee, sandwiches, bars, water, minerals and beer at the carpark to a BBQ at the 9th tee with a plentiful supply of refreshments. A sit down meal was provided in the hotel after which presentation of prizes took place. The winning team which was an all ladies team resulted in rip-roaring applause, so congrats to: L. Pres. Ger Hallinan, L. V/Capt. Rosie Murphy, H/Cap Sec. Mary Kiely and Eileen Good with a score of 194pts
The money raised on the day exceeded €6,000 between entry fees and donations which will be used to purchase special chairs for the Palliative Care Ward in Dungarvan
Community Hospital. Director of Nursing Paula French accepted the donation with grateful appreciation of the club’s efforts and the show of solidarity from the members.
Our grateful thanks to our many sponsors who donate every time and help make these charity events run so smoothly, it is much appreciated!! A special word of thanks to Bob and his committee who organised the whole event and had it running like clockwork.
Thanks to Ann and the McGrath family who were ever present throughout the day to give a hand where it was needed, it was really appreciated.
Thank You to our L.Capt. Isobel and ladies who prepped on Tuesday evening and catered all day Wednesday to keep the golfers sustained during the 36 holes. It was a fabulous day for all involved, and everybody went home tired but happy!!

MARKING OF CARDS
Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. It is also important not to enter a zero for stableford competitions as it interferes with standard scratch, if you blank a hole just record the shots as the computer will adjust accordingly. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.
NEW MEMBER DEALS
Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Isobel and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!! There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.
