Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 14th June 2020

GOLDCOAST GOLF CLUB NOTES 14TH JUNE 2020

Another great week for golf at the Gold Coast Golf Club.   Lots of players getting back into the “swing” of things.  Fair play to the new members and existing members for getting together on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for getting handicaps organised.  We hope new members are enjoying the game and experience at the Gold Coast GC.  A special mention for those involved in the maintenance and restoration of the bunkers, they are nearly finished and well done to everyone for helping out.  We are all, existing and new, members looking forward to the next phase of Covid 19 restrictions being lifted and hopefully competitions being restored.    If you get to play this week ENJOY.

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME

We are delighted to welcome so many new members to the club just now. Committee and Club Members will be making themselves available over the next few weeks to accompany new members on the course.  Helping with getting handicaps organised, going through the basic rules and the requirements on the course. Members at the Gold Coast will do everything they can to make you welcome so feel free to put your name down anytime with anyone and enjoy the camaraderie, the game, and the stunning scenery.

Members old and new are reminded to check out the notice board adjacent to the first tee regarding local rules, dress codes etc.  On Tuesday and Wednesday evening (5pm-7pm) a members evening where members will be able to play with some of the new members to facilitate getting handicaps. Please book your time on the BRS system. We will be doing this for the next few weeks.

RULE OF THE WEEK:-  Play within the parameters of the tee

The first tee shot of a round is always daunting, even for seasoned golfers, so make sure you tee up between and behind the front of the appropriate markers – usually white for medal tees, yellow for men, red for ladies – and within two club lengths. With all the swing thoughts that go through the average player’s head, it can be easy to forget about these basic parameters. Penalty for teeing up the ball outside of them (you may take your stance outside if you prefer) is two shots in strokeplay. (Rule 11)

RECIPROCAL GREENFEE ARRANGEMENT WITH DUNGARVAN AND WEST WATERFORD GOLF CLUBS

Just a note to remind members that for many years now, all three golf clubs in Dungarvan have operated a reciprocal arrangement where Monday to Friday, members of Goldcoast Golf Club can play Dungarvan or West Waterford (or vice versa) for a reduced green fee of €15 now. This does not apply weekends or for competitions and additionally now for the next couple of weeks, you can only play with a member.

COURSE MAINTENANCE

Huge credit to the course staff during the Covid 19 lockdown to keep the course in such fine condition. It’s a credit to all involved. When you get back playing you will see the great work that has been done by volunteers on the bunkers too. There are still a few bunkers to do so if you have a couple of free hours please contact the kiosk and they will arrange for your availability.
