JOHN WHITE CARPENTRY SPONORED WINTER LEAGUE 2022/23
This year’s winter league is now in full swing and runs until the 10th February 2023. The format this year is 9 teams of 12 players with 10 rounds to be played. 6 teams out of the 9 will go through to the play offs. Best of luck to the 9 Captains and their teams. We ask that all players write the name of their team on the cards to make it easy for the kiosk staff to add your score to the spreadsheet. It promises to be a very competitive winter league going on previous years. A huge thank you again to our sponsor John White.
CARE OF THE GREENS
To keep our greens in excellent condition we wish to make golfers mindful to please repair all pitch marks. At this time of year, even small pitch shots into the green can damage the surface. To bring extra focus on repairing these marks, greens have been assigned to each of the Winter League teams as follows:
1st and 10th Green: Abbeyside
2nd and 11th Green: An Rinn
3rd and 12th Green: Ballinacourty
4th and 13th Green: Comeragh
5th and 14th Green: Cork
6th and 15th Green: Dungarvan
7th and 16th Green: Dunhill
8th and 17th Green: Nire/Tourneena
9th and 18th Green: Stradbally
Thank you for your continued co-operation.
ON THE COURSE
Winter rules are in play so it is marking and placing within 6 inches no nearer the hole on both fairways and rough. Bunkers are also GUR for the duration of Winter League. Please check with kiosk staff for further updates.

The Gold coast members have always been generous in their support and we know this will continue again this year for this very worthy cause.
NON-RETURN OF COMPLETED SCORECARDS
From 31st March 2022 an automated process will be put in place to apply an automatic penalty score if a score is pre-registered but not submitted. This rule applies to both General Play and official Competitions. The player is now totally responsible for submitting their score once it has been pre-registered. If they fail to do so without providing the committee with a valid reason, an automated penalty score will be applied. Mandatory Handicap on Scorecards. From 31st March 2022, Golf Ireland requires that the player’s Handicap Index is verified before playing and is the required handicap on a scorecard

GOLD COASTERS
The midweek 9 Hole is proving to be quite popular with new and long term members coming together for a social outing with a cuppa and catch-up afterwards. We have changed the day to Thursday to facilitate our Bridge Club ladies, our next outing will be Thur 17th Nov at 12.00 due to time change and we are hoping to run this event through the winter with a change of tee times to take advantage of the daylight hours. This is an ideal opportunity to play the 10 Hole Winter League in conjunction with the competition of the day. Registration is 12pm on the day with Anne or Mary. Please support,
as these midweek events are fantastic to keep you swinging and enjoying the game!!
END OF YEAR DINNER
Our annual dinner took place in the Gold Coast Hotel on Saturday 12th November, as always this is a lovely social gathering where notable awards are presented and members get a chance to catch up on what’s happening in the club. The atmosphere was electric with the presentation of prizes ending in laughter and banter from all sides with a special presentation to Eamonn O’Donnell for his promotion of golf and services to our club and his attention to detail to all who visit Dromoland GC. Thank you Eamonn, we are very proud that you are one of our own!!
GOLFER OF THE YEAR
Our golfer of the year for 2022 was Mary Dunbar who beat off the opposition in securing a one point lead to claim the trophy. Mary gave a wonderful acceptance speech thanking everyone who had an input into her game and not forgetting her loyal friends who supported her along the way!! Well done Mary.
JOHN MCGRATH MEMORIAL STROKEPLAY
This was once an accolade presented by the ILGU in the form of the Silver Spoon for the best strokeplay of the year. Since it has been ceased by Golf Ireland, the ladies club decided to award the recipient with the John McGrath Memorial Cup. The winner of the inaugural trophy was our wonderful Director of Golf Irene Lynch, who was untouchable throughout the year with her fabulous golf. Congrats Irene, you deserve the accolade!!
CLUB MIXED FOURSOMES
Our club mixed foursomes came down to a humdinger of a final between our Lady Captain Isobel and her partner Nicky and Ruth who is no stranger to matchplay and her partner PRO Nicholas. Apparently, the game was electric with some fabulous golf from both pairings which came down to the final putt which saw Isobel and Nicky in the winning enclosure. Congrats to both teams in making it to the final!!
AGM & PRESENTATION
Our AGM will take place on Friday 18th November at 8pm in the Gold Coast Hotel with presentation of all outstanding prizes at 7pm on the night.
It is imperative that all ladies attend the AGM, as this is your opportunity to air your views for the year ahead. Nomination sheet for incoming officers and committee will be posted in kiosk during the week.
LIONS CLUB HAMPER APPEAL
As with previous years, our club is again appealing to its members to remember those less fortunate for the forthcoming festive season. The ladies and men’s clubs will be donating all the entries from competitions and participating in the raffle for the beautiful hampers and other prizes donated by members, to which we are entirely grateful!! Tickets will be on sale in the kiosk, please support. The ladies will be holding a fun scramble for the event, date to be announced which will be posted in kiosk and WhatsApp group.
