The World Handicap System was launched in November 2020.  Please go to the Golf Ireland website and find your handicap index.  The WHS is an averaging system based using the best 8 of the last 20 scores on your record.  To access your handicap information, you must register and create a new account at using your eight-digit CDH number and 4-digit PIN, both of which are printed on the rear of your GUI/ILGU Member Card.  You can also now download the new Golf Ireland App which will also enable you to view your own handicap index and playing record.  We would urge all members to register now and familiarise themselves with the WHS system.

Course & Slope Rating tables are located at the Club but are also available on the Golf Ireland App.  You simply have to choose the tees you are playing off that day and cross reference your Handicap Index on the Course & Slope Rating table to ascertain your Course Handicap. Different tees on the same course could have varying slope ratings. Your Course Handicap determines the number of strokes you give or receive off the tee set you intend to play from red, yellow, white or blue.

Then, depending on the format you are playing (singles, fourball etc.) you will apply a handicap allowance to your course handicap which will present you with your playing handicap.

For example: The recommended handicap allowance for individual stroke play events is 95% which means a player could have a handicap index of 18.2, course handicap of 20 but a playing handicap of 19.
More information on the World Handicap System can be found at

The facility exists for members to sign in and input their scores at the Club for competitions through their phone on the Howdidido mobile App.  Members are encouraged to register for this service on the HowdidiIdo website.

Great scores from the ladies over the weekend, well done to all!!

While the return to formal and organised competitions has commenced, we are delighted to welcome back our friends from the many clubs who have been regular supporters of our Open Tuesday and Friday competitions. Meanwhile, visitors and green fees are most welcome to play our spectacular course and when the weather is fine and sunny the scenery is unrivalled!! Entry and returned scores via computer is obligatory and entry fees payable by card in the kiosk. The 10 Hole On-going remains the same, entering in downstairs kiosk and posting €3 in ladies score box.

The Inter Club competitions will be starting soon and the team managers are busy getting their respective players ready for their first outing of the leagues. It will be tougher than previous years as all the new protocols will have to be adhered to, but we are wishing all our teams the very best of luck and hope they all have a very enjoyable and sporting match!!

We are looking forward to hosting our very popular Open Team Events on the following dates, July 19th, August 16th and September 20th which will all take place on Mondays. Mark the dates in your diaries ladies!

Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.

Sending our warmest get well wishes to Mairead M and looking forward to seeing you back on the fairways very soon!!

The guidelines for now are members with no restriction on households permitted per booking for social or club competitions. Meanwhile all regulations have to be adhered to when entering and playing your round. Members please make yourselves aware of the changing guidelines in relation to golf from the government and Golf Ireland, information regarding any changes will be posted on the WhatsApp group.

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Anne and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!!
