WORLD HANDICAPPING SYSTEM AND GOLF IRELAND APP at www.golfireland.ie

The World Handicap System was launched in November 2020.  Please go to the Golf Ireland website and find your handicap index.  The WHS is an averaging system based using the best 8 of the last 20 scores on your record.  To access your handicap information, you must register and create a new account at www.golfireland.ie using your eight-digit CDH number and 4-digit PIN, both of which are printed on the rear of your GUI/ILGU Member Card.  You can also now download the new Golf Ireland App which will also enable you to view your own handicap index and playing record.  We would urge all members to register now and familiarise themselves with the WHS system.

Wishing our ladies and gents the very best of luck in their respective matches which is now approaching the final stage!!

LADY CAPTAINS OUTING

Our outing this year was a day trip to New Ross GC on Sat 4th Sept which proved an outstanding success by everyone. We received a very warm welcome from everyone we met from the Clubhouse to the Pro-shop, the course was in magnificent condition and the weather was perfect for golf!!

We played a scramble format to incorporate our beginners and great fun was the format of the day. After a beautiful meal served by very efficient waiting staff we had the Presentation of Prizes which caused some hilarity!! Thanks to L. Captain Anne, Elaine and the Social Committee for a wonderful day out.

COASTAL ALLIANCE CAPTAIN’S DAY

The Captain’s Day of 2019/20 eventually took place on Wed 8th Oct in Tramore GC, due to Covid 19 restrictions. While the day started out in lovely sunny conditions it deteriorated very rapidly through the back 9 with dense fog and no visability.

However, we escaped heavy rain and enjoyed the game and the company on the fairways!! Not to come home empty handed, Eilo won the front 9 with 20pts and everybody got a golf ball!! Thanks to Noreen and her team for a great day and a wonderful array of prizes, well done to all.  Congratulations

Our heartiest congratulations to the West Waterford ladies who overcame a very strong team in the Revive Active Fourball Matchplay in Gort last week. We wish them the best of luck as they enter the semi-final stage of this event!!

OPEN TEAM EVENTS

Our last Open team event will be on Monday 20th Sept and we are back to the very popular Champagne Scramble. Further details of this event will be posted on our WhatsApp group and these notes.

JUNIOR GOLF

A female panel is needed to help with our Junior Sector which will commence on Sunday evenings, start date to be confirmed. Garda vetting and a safeguarding course 1 is a requirement and will be organised online by the club.

If you can spare some time, please add your name to the panel, your help will be much appreciated.

MARKING OF CARDS

Golf Ireland guidelines have stated that all 3 handicaps must be recorded on cards for competition and casual rounds for handicap purposes. To avoid disqualification

you must record your h/cap index, playing h/cap and most importantly the course h/cap, all of these are available on the Golf Ireland app and also on screen when you log in for competitions. It is also important not to enter a zero for stableford competitions as it interferes with standard scratch, if you blank a hole just record the shots as the computer will adjust accordingly. All scores must be recorded by the marker and signed in agreement with the player before being returned no later than 30mins after you finish your round.

COVID 19

The guidelines for now are members with no restriction on households permitted per booking for social or club competitions. Meanwhile all regulations have to be adhered to when entering and playing your round. Members please make yourselves aware of the changing guidelines in relation to golf from the government and Golf Ireland, information regarding any changes will be posted on the WhatsApp group.

NEW MEMBER DEALS

Ladies, if you had ever thought of taking up golf, now is the time to do it, our Lady Captain Anne and any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members and showcase our beautiful course and unrivalled scenery!! There are great deals on offer for new members and beginners including tuition, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Brian in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.  The management and staff have implemented all the safety procedures to protect both staff and members who wish to play golf at the Gold Coast GC. Please keep yourself informed of new notifications within the club!
