Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 12th February 2023

This year’s winter league has now entered its 16th week. With all the teams making the most of the fine weather it looks like it will be down to the wire in the battle for the top 6 qualifying playoff spots. It will be an exciting finish to the qualifying stages with the League running until the 24th of February, so best of luck to all team captains and players.  The Quarter finals are set for Sunday 5th March with the semi-finals on the following Sunday March 12th.  The grand final is penciled in for Sunday 26th March. A huge thank you to our sponsor John White.

Prizes of Legs of Lamb will be awarded to all prize winners for winter league until end of February. Each prize winner will carry a 2-point penalty deduction towards further prize qualification until the end of the league. A player winning a second prize will be deducted 4 points etc. A player’s full score will count for the winter league.

Our annual mass for deceased members took place on Thursday 2nd February in the Gold Coast Hotel, our celebrant was Fr Ned Hassett PP Abbeyside.  We were joined by a large number of members and their families.  As mass began, we prayed for the speedy recovery of Fr Jerry Condon PP Stradbally who has been our celebrant for the past number of years. The readings were delivered by our two Captains Michael and Rosie, our prayers of the Faithful by our Lady President Ella Fitzgerald and Past Captain John White.  With mass completed we retired to the restaurant for tea and sandwiches. We would like to thank Fr Hassett, the management and staff of the hotel for the beautiful food, and all those that helped to make the mass so special and to all that attended.

Our Captains Michael Wall and Rosemary Murphy will take to the first tee on Sunday morning February 26th to get our golfing year underway here in the Gold Coast Golf Club for 2023.  A shotgun start 18 holes scramble will take place at 10am.  A draw will take place for playing partners. Please enter your names on the online timesheet by 12 noon Saturday 25th Feb.  Ribs and colcannon and presentation afterwards in the Dugout Bar.
