Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 10th September 2023

We held our Presidents prizes on the weekend of 1st to the 3rd of September and what a weekend it turned out to be starting with our mixed scramble on Wednesday evening when a large number of members took to the fairways to play a 11 hole event with great scoring and fun been had by all.  We were treated to lovely food at the first tee box by Aisling Fennell assisted by Maurice Fennell with tasty burgers and sausages on the menu. Well done to all who organised the evening.

Our qualifying rounds took place on Friday and Saturday with Dave O’ Connor leading on Friday with 42 points and Tony Moore scoring 41pts on Saturday.  From early Sunday morning our ladies and gents assembled in the cark park wishing each other well for the final day before taking to the fairways.  There was some great scoring again in brilliant sunshine and when the dust settled Pat Kiely came out on top to win the Presidents Prize for 2023. Congratulations also to Mary Kiely on winning the Lady Presidents Prize, a great achievement after a serious injury during the year.

We all gathered in the Goldcoast Hotel for some beautiful food as always, we say thank you to the management and staff of the Hotel for their great service. Lady Captain Rosie Murphy got the presentation under way. She spoke very highly of Lady President Eilo Fitzgerald and thanked her for all her hard work down through the years she then went on to present her prizes.  The ladies winners were as follows.

He then introduced the President who then went on to thank the hard-working committee, course management, the kiosk staff and hotel staff and anyone who helped to make his weekend so special.  To quote our Captain Michael, Spain’s loss was truly the Goldcoast’s gain.   Well done to both Presidents on a fantastic weekend and we wish you both well for the rest of 2023.

Our greens receive 1040 impressions daily. 31000 per month OR MORE THAN 374,400 per year. Are you wondering how to make a putt under these conditions? Please repair your pitch marks even if they are not yours and always please shout fore if your ball goes in a direction that it was not intended to, for it will make the course safer for everyone.

While playing golf last weekend in the Goldcoast I was approached by a visitor who was blown away by the course and the views in all directions.  As he walked away his last comment was what a beautiful gem of a course we have, which was nice to hear.
