PRESIDENTS’ PRIZE 2026
Our Presidents’ Prize took place last weekend, and what a fantastic week it was for Presidents Alan Darcy and Mary Sweeney.
Blessed with beautiful weather the celebrations got underway on Wednesday evening with the Presidents’ Scramble and barbecue at the first tee. The serious competition began on Friday and Saturday with the qualifying rounds, and by early Sunday morning car park was buzzing with excitement as competitors prepared for the 11.00am shotgun start final.
After an exciting final round a new champion emerged and we congratulate Lar Whelan our 2026 Presidents’ Prize Champion and Martina Corkery who claimed Mary Sweeney’s Lady President’s Prize.
Well done to all who took part and a huge thank you to everyone involved in making the event such a great success. A full report will feature in next week’s notes.

JOHN McGRATH MEMORIAL GOLF CLASSIC
This year’s John McGrath Memorial Golf Classic in aid of Dungarvan Community Hospital will take place from Monday 31st August to Sunday 6th September.
There’s plenty of time to get your team together, the competition will be a 3-Ball Champagne Scramble with two scores to count on all holes. The maximum handicap is 24 for men and 36 for ladies.
Prizes will be presented in the Men’s, Ladies’, Mixed and Non-Golf Ireland categories.
Entry is €90 per team for members and €150 per team for visitors.

Please remember the Three R’s when playing:
Rake bunkers – Always rake the bunker after use, leaving it as you would like to find it.
Replace divots – Replace and firmly press down any divots you take.
Repair pitch marks – Repair your own pitch marks, and any others you notice, to help keep our greens in excellent condition.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated and helps maintain the course for everyone’s enjoyment.

PRESIDENT’S PRIZE WEEKEND
Our Presidents Alan and Mary held their special event from the 5th to the 9th August, starting with our fun scramble on Wednesday night which was a resounding success. There were some fabulous scores returned over the 11 Hole scramble with Kevin Walsh’s team coming in 9 under to take the accolade as the winners of the competition.
The BBQ manned by our chefs Aisling and Martina serving cooked to order burgers and sausages was a bigger success as many went back to sample seconds of what was on offer, absolutely beautiful. Well done ladies, you hit the spot with the food and beverages!!!
The weather played ball for the qualifying rounds on Friday and Saturday with plenty of sunshine bringing in a mix of scores on both days. Our President Mary kept us all sated with lovely savoury bites and a goodie bag for the journey!! Thanks a mill to the ladies who supplied the beautiful tray bakes and chocolate temptations on both days, stunning!!
The final on Sunday brought another stunning day of sunshine for our Presidents as the finalists took to the fairways with a shotgun start at 11am. The leaders maintained their position coming in the top four positions with Martina claiming the honours as winner of the 2026 President’s Prize. Congratulations Martina and all the prizewinners on two great days of golf, also heartiest congratulations to Lar Whelan who claimed Alan’s Trophy.
The presentation of prizes took place to a packed function room with Captain Johnny welcoming everyone and introducing Lady Captain Bridge who spoke warmly about Mary and her input into the club. Mary then spoke of her role within the club and thanked everyone who helped over the weekend, everyone who baked and the ladies who produced some fabulous floral arrangements. To the ladies who were tasked with the job of collating cards and doing results, thank you very much!!
The weekend was a marvelous success with fabulous weather, great food and wonderful entertainment with Robbie Weldon and two very popular winners. Well done everybody!!!

LADY CAPTAIN’S OUTING
Our Lady Capt. Bridge is returning to home soil and hopefully bringing all the Gold Coast ladies with her for what will definitely be a wonderful day out!!
The venue is Cahir Park GC on Saturday 29th August with tea/coffee scones, golf and dinner, first tee at 1.30pm The sheet is now posted in kiosk, so please add your name for a promised fun day out!!!
