Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 7th September 2025

WINTER LEAGUGE 2025/26 – CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
With the shorter evenings now upon us, the Gold Coast Golf Club is pleased to announce that preparations are under way for the 2025/26 Winter League.
Captains of last year’s teams are in the process of contacting their members to confirm participation for the upcoming season.
Any members who were not part of a team last year, or those who are new to the club and wish to take part, are kindly requested to add their name and contact number to the sign-up sheet located in the kiosk. It is important that this is completed at your earliest convenience to assist the organising committee in finalising the teams.
We look forward to another successful and competitive Winter League.

RYDER CUP COMPETITION AND PINK DAY
On Sunday 28th Sept a special competition has been devised to coincide with the Ryder Cup. Teams of two players will play fourball for the 1st six holes, singles for the second six holes and foursomes for the final six holes, the formats being used during the Ryder Cup.
Players can pick their own partner for this event, and teams can be made up of gents, ladies or mixed. There will be a prize for the best gent’s team, best ladies team and best mixed teams. The presentation of prizes will take place in the Gold Coast at 4 pm.
Handicaps: Players will use their index for the day. For the 1st twelve holes all players will play of their current index. For the final six holes players will combine their handicaps, divide by three. The competition will be Stableford.
The men’s club will sponsor the prizes for the day and proceeds from the competition will go towards the Ladies Club Charity Pink Day.

CONDOLENCES
We offer our Condolences to Denis Conway on the death of his sister Mary Crowley nee Conway which occurred during the weekend. May God have mercy on her gentle soul.

MICHAEL CASHMAN TROPHY
Hard luck to the Michael Cashman team who were beaten by Thurles in the Munster quarter final last week. They put in a great effort all summer and can be very proud of how far they got in the competition and did the Gold Coast proud.

SUMMER MIXED SCRAMBLE
Our third and final mixed scramble took place last Wednesday with our best turnout yet of 6 teams. The weather was once again glorious and some great golf was played over the 9 holes. A big thanks to Mary Dunbar who organised the registration, Martin Morris who organised the handicaps, Doc O’ Connor who checked the cards and the men’s club who once again sponsored the prizes. The scoring was very close and the results were as follows.
1st John White/Martina Corkery/Brian Dunbar/Michael Marrinan
2nd Tommy Long/Michael Kavanagh/John Dooley/Breeda Murphy
3rd Martin Morris/Tom Reynolds/Brendan Fitzgerald/Frank Mulvihill

ON THE COURSE
Please remember the Three R’s: Rake Bunkers – Always rake the bunker after use, leaving it as you would hope to find it. Replace Divots – Replace and firmly press down any divots taken. Repair Pitch Marks – Repair your own pitch marks (and any others you see) on the greens to help keep surfaces smooth and true. Your cooperation helps maintain the course in excellent condition for everyone, thank you.
