Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 31st August 2025

SUMMER MIXED SCRAMBLE
Our third and final mixed scramble takes place this Wednesday 3rd September with a slightly earlier start. Registration from 5.30 and teeing off at 6pm. This scramble is again kindly sponsored by the men’s club, so entry is free. Presentation of prizes afterwards in the hotel.

MICHAEL CASHMAN TROPHY
Hard luck to our Michael Cashman Trophy team and management who were defeated by Thurles on Sunday in the Gold Coast. Well done to all involved and thank you to those who came out to support on the day. We wish Thurles the very best of luck in the next round.

PRESIDENTS PRIZE WEEKEND
The President’s Prize was held from the 22nd to 24th August in glorious weather. Our little gem of a course played to its usual high standard and, under the sunshine, felt more like the South Coast of Spain than Dungarvan.
The competition began on Friday with the first qualifying round, where Tony Moore set the pace as clubhouse leader. On Saturday, Colin McArthur returned an excellent 43 points to join Tony at the top, leaving the final day finely poised.
By early Sunday morning the finalists had gathered for the shotgun start. After four hours of testing golf, a new champion emerged. With a superb round on Sunday Jack Duggan came through as President’s Prize winner for 2025, closely followed by Willie Flavin and Anselm Hayes.
Following the golf players enjoyed a beautiful meal in the Gold Coast Hotel before the prize presentation. Captain Brian Dunbar spoke highly of Roy for his dedication and contribution since joining the club. President Roy then delivered a heartfelt speech, in which he remembered the late John McGrath for his vision in developing the Gold Coast into the wonderful course we enjoy today. He also expressed his gratitude to the hotel, kiosk staff, greenkeeping team, the Men’s Fixtures & Handicap Committee, and the main committee for their hard work and making the weekend such a success.
Once again, we extend our congratulations to Jack Duggan on his victory and to Ladies’ winner Deirdre Ruane on a great result.

Repair Pitch Marks – Repair your own pitch marks (and any others you see) on the greens to help keep surfaces smooth and true.
