Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 25th January 2026

DONNCHADH DUNNE ELECTRICAL W.E.S. WINTER LEAGUE 2025/2026
This year’s Gents Winter League has been keenly contested. With just four full weeks remaining the league is finely balanced, with only marginal points separating several teams. Every point now matters, and there is still everything to play for.
Players are encouraged to complete a minimum of 10 games to give their team the best chance of being in full contention and to reflect the true standings.
Qualifying rounds will continue until 22nd February 2026.
We appreciate everyone’s careful attention to recording points and totals accurately on both scorecards and the computer system. This ensures results are processed efficiently and helps keep the league running smoothly.
Weekly scores and team progress can be viewed in the News section of the club website.

ON THE COURSE
We ask all visitors and members to please respect the fairways and greens during this wet period. Please observe all no-go areas around the greens and use varied access points across the fairways when making your way to the greens. This will help protect the course and allow it the opportunity to recover during the current inclement weather.

ANNUAL MASS
We would like to sincerely thank Fr Ned Hassett PP, Abbeyside, who celebrated a beautiful Mass for our deceased members last Friday evening. Thank you to everyone who attended, to those who assisted with the readings and Prayers of the Faithful, and to all who helped organise the room. We also extend our thanks to the staff and management of the Gold Coast Hotel for the refreshments served after the Mass.

GOLD COASTERS
Our group had their first outing of 2026 on Thursday with a return visit to the Kilmacthomas Greenway. We were blessed with beautiful weather for our walk and a magnificent lunch followed to round off our day out.
However after the lunch some took a little tour of the area and discovered a new beauty place just recently opened, met the owner and took away all relevant information. We then located the Mahon Valley Milk dispensing unit which was purchased by many in the group, bringing back memories of the good old days when everything was organic!!
It was a fabulous day out and a perfect way to start the New Year, thanks a mill again Anne for organising it and for everything you do for our group, it is very much appreciated!!

SPRING LEAGUE
The Spring league has started with the teams, terms and conditions now posted in the kiosk and WhatsApp group. We have 6 teams with a mix of 10 & 18 hole players. The entry fee will be an initial €25 for registration and the first 5 games which are a requirement from each team member. Subsequent games to better your score will be €5 per game.
This year there will be a mix of stableford and matchplay, shots will be given for the matchplay games and it runs to Sat 28th March. Please read the terms and conditions before play!! Good luck to everyone!!

CAPTAINS DRIVE-IN
Our Captains Johnny and Bridge will hold their Drive-In on Sunday 29th March with mixed scramble to follow, more details on this event to follow!

MASS FOR DECEASED MEMBERS
Our annual mass for deceased members took place last Friday with a large turnout despite the appalling weather conditions, the mass was celebrated by Fr. Ned Hassett. It was a lovely occasion where we came to remember those no longer with us with the ever increasing list read out by members of the men’s committee.
Fr. Ned spoke with empathy about our deceased members and recalled some very funny stories about our most notable characters. The readings were read by our Captains Johnny and Bridge and prayers of the faithful by various committee members.
Our Captains both spoke and thanked everyone and the McGrath family for attending and how delighted they were to be starting their year with positivity.

NEW MEMBER DEALS 2025/26
Ladies, thinking of taking up golf, now is the time to do it! Our Lady Captain Bridge or any committee member would be delighted to take out potential members on the course. New lady member fee of €408 including Golf Ireland fees for year 1 are on offer now, please contact our Director of Golf Irene or Mark in the kiosk on 058 44055 for more information.
