Goldcoast Golf Club Notes 20th September 2026

€25,000 RAISED FOR DUNGARVAN COMMUNITY HOSPITAL AT JOHN MCGRATH MEMORIAL GOLF CLASSIC 2026
There was a wonderful celebration at the Gold Coast Hotel on Friday evening 18th September as Gold Coast Golf Club presented a cheque for an incredible €25,000 to Dungarvan Community Hospital following the hugely successful 2026 John McGrath Memorial Golf Classic.
The prize presentation and raffle draw took place in front of a large gathering of club members, visitors, prize winners, sponsors, friends, Club Officers and the organising committee. Also in attendance were members of the McGrath family, Mayor of Waterford City and County Liam Brazil and Director of Nursing at Dungarvan Community Hospital Paula French.
The €25,000 donation was warmly received on behalf of the hospital by Paula French, who spoke of her appreciation for the extraordinary generosity shown by Gold Coast Golf Club and everyone who supported the Classic. She highlighted the importance of the funds to the hospital and the difference they will make to patients, families and staff. The donation is expected to be earmarked for a specific project, with a sensory garden among the projects being considered.
Mayor Liam Brazil also addressed the gathering speaking about the vital role Dungarvan Community Hospital plays in the local community and the importance of supporting such an invaluable facility. He praised Gold Coast Golf Club and all those involved in the fundraising effort. The hospital has touched the lives of so many local families, and the €25,000 raised is a wonderful reflection of the strong community spirit in the area.
Club Captain Johnny Hughes and Lady Captain Bridge Walsh thanked everyone who had contributed to making the Classic such an outstanding success. In particular, they expressed their sincere appreciation to the many members and visitors who supported the event in such large numbers, as well as the sponsors whose generosity and continued support were instrumental in making the week possible.
Special thanks were also extended to the organising committee, together with the Gold Coast staff and management, for the tremendous amount of work and dedication that went into organising the Classic and ensuring that everything ran so smoothly throughout the week. Particular recognition was given to Nicholas Power, Michael Wall, Martin Morris and Mark Lenihan for their invaluable contributions.
The Club also acknowledged the assistance of Maggie Veale Video and Photography and Leanne Bumster for their social media coverage, along with WLR FM, the Dungarvan Leader and the Dungarvan Observer for helping to promote the event and highlight its fundraising efforts throughout the week.
The 2026 Classic has once again demonstrated what can be achieved when a club comes together for a worthy cause. The €25,000 raised this year brings the total raised by the John McGrath Memorial Golf Classic over the past five years to more than €50,000 – a remarkable achievement and a fitting tribute to the memory of the late John McGrath.
Gold Coast Golf Club would like to sincerely thank everyone who played, sponsored, donated, volunteered or helped in any way throughout the week. The phenomenal €25,000 donation to Dungarvan Community Hospital is a tremendous achievement and one that everyone involved can be very proud of.
