PRESIDENTS PRIZE 2024
Our President’s Prize took centre stage over the weekend and what great weekend it turned out to be, played in beautiful conditions on a fantastic course here at the Gold Coast Golf Club. Friday was the first qualifying day with great scoring being recorded and by the evening Eoin Manfield led the field. On Saturday, the second day of qualifying, things changed at the top with Darragh Power taking the lead followed closely by another talented young man namely AJ Hayes.
Sunday was the day of the final and from early morning the car park was a hive of activity with players arriving, cards been distributed and groups making their way to their assigned tee boxes for the shot gun start. Again, the sun shone brightly on us and some fantastic golf was played. As the dust settled and the cards were tallied up, a very popular winner was on his way to winning another Major. And no one deserved it more; his dedication to the club has been un wavering down through the years as both a player, a committee member, as Captain and as the sponsor of the winter league. Huge Congratulations to the winner of the Presidents Prize for 2024 John White.
We retired to the hotel for a lovely meal and Presentation ceremony and were joined by the ladies club for the prize giving. Lady Captain Elaine Nash got proceedings under way and introduced Lady President Anne Keane. We congratulate Lady President Anne on a hugely successful weekend and say well done to the overall winner of the Lady President’s prize Mary Fennell.
Captain David O’Connor then spoke very highly of our popular President John Hallinan and his work in promoting the club down through the years. President John then delivered a well prepared speech. In it he thanked Rafael for giving him the honour of the office of President, the Hotel staff for the wonderful service and meal, Green keeping staff for the up keep of our little gem of a course, the McGrath family for the use of Goldcoast Golf Club and Resort, and his family especially his wife Esther and three daughters for their support during the year. He also thanked the committee who organised the weekend, Brendan O’Brien, Micheal Wall, John White, Frank Mulvihill, David O’Connor, Brian Fahey and Irene Lynch in the kiosk for all their help. He then presented flowers to Lady President Anne and the ladies Committee presented flowers to President John’s wife Esther. We thank Presidents John and Anne for a great weekend.

Our Presidents John and Anne were very busy in the run up to their very special weekend. The prestigious event took off on Wednesday evening with the Presidents Scramble and BBQ which was a fantastic success with a large turnout over 13 holes.
There was great fun and banter on the way round with the BBQ stationed as normal at the first tee with a new team of caterers! The burgers with all the trimmings were delicious as usual, thanks a mill to Aisling, Rosie and especially Martin who surpassed himself with his cooking skills! The refreshments for the night were served by Esther who made sure everyone was attended to efficiently.
There were some fantastic scores returned on the night and all results are posted above in men’s notes. Thanks a mill to our catering team who are a very important part of the scrambles and to the men’s committee members who organised the event.
The President’s Prize qualifiers over Friday and Saturday brought in some great scores on both days, while the conditions on Saturday were more favourable.
Sunday started with a shotgun start @ 10am in beautiful and perfect golfing conditions which reflected the scores returned, some which were phenomenal.
The presentation of prizes took place after the golf to a large turnout of members, family and friends with our Lady Captain Elaine opening the proceedings. She thanked everyone for playing and supporting Anne and spoke very highly of her commitment to the club and the several roles she has played from her joining the club in 2011 to date.
Anne spoke of what an honour it was to be our President and thanked everyone for making her weekend such a success. The winner of the prestigious prize with a fabulous score over two days was our wonderful and competent secretary Mary who gave a wonderful acceptance speech and was delighted to be the recipient of such a wonderful prize.
Not to be outdone, John White who is no stranger to the winners circle was once again the winner of John’s beautiful trophy. Congratulations and well done to John and Mary and to all who featured in the prizes over the weekend and also to both John and Anne for a wonderful weekend of golf, music and great craic!
