News of Gold Coast Gold Club

Congratulations to Stephen Cliffe on achieving a Hole in One on the 14th Hole in the Gold Coast on Saturday last. Stephen used a 4 iron for the 190 yard shot. Stephen will receive a medal at the next presentation.

From 1st March all entries to competitions must be made using either your Golfnet Card or the 8 digit number on that card. The present method of using the 4 digits will no longer be used.

The Gold Coast have re-entered the South East League for 2012 and at a meeting in Youghal last Tuesday night we were drawn in the same group as Mitchelstown, East Cork, Dungarvan and West Waterford.

The following are the venues and dates for our matches: League starting time is 11 a.m.

The team will consist of three Bruen Pairs and three Purcell Pairs. The Bruen pairs will be selected by Pat Power and the Purcell pairs will be selected by Brian O’Connor.

For a change the competition on Sunday 26th February will be a men’s foursomes and there will be no singles competition on that day. This is at the request of the managers of the Bruen and Purcell teams. The winners will represent the Gold Coast in The Irish Daily Mail Golf Trophy.

On Sunday next, 12th February, both quarter-finals of the league will take place. In the first match Dunhill will play Dungarvan and this match gets underway at 9.30 a.m. Representing Dunhill will be Tom White, Micheal White, John White, Colm Keane, Jack Moore, Willie Moore, Martin Murray, Willie Flavin, John Drohan, Derek Power, John W Walsh, John Queally and Johnny Ryan. Representing Dungarvan will be Bryan Keohan, Pat Power, David O'Connor, Kiki Cullinan, Jimmy O'Dwyer, Brian O'Connor, Anselm Hayes, Donal Mc Grath, Patsy Walsh, Eugene Collins, Michael Walsh, Andy Travers and John Walsh

In the second quarter-final, which will get underway at 10.45, Ballinacourty play Cork. Representing Ballinacourty will be Micheal McGrath, Conor McCarthy, Thomas Wall, Damien Cliffe, John McGrath, John Elsted, Bob O'Brien, Alan Landers, Paddy Walsh, Mark Lenihan, Benny Kiely, James Hayes and Aidan Connolly. Representing Cork will be Billy Long, Garry Manning, Laurence Philips, Tim O’Driscoll, Tom Ryan, James Kennedy, Mick Glavin, Tom O'Rourke, Seamus O'Connell, Pat Healy, Ted Carroll, Des Doyle and Dave Scannell.

The winners of the Dunhill v Dungarvan will play Copper Coast on Sunday 19th February and the winners of the Ballinacourty v Cork will play Abbeyside on the same day.

Our very popular 10 holes competition continues on and from now to Easter we will be giving legs of lamb as prizes. Entry is €3 and this competition can be played any day of the week. After every 15 entries we start a new competition.

Every Tuesday: Seniors Open, Ladies & Gents, 50+, €12 or Entry and Lunch €20.

This competition takes place over the three local clubs, Gold Coast, West Waterford and Dungarvan on Tuesday 24th, Wed 25th and Thurs 26th April. It is one of the more popular events we host each year and players travel from many parts of the country to take part. If any member of the local clubs might know someone who might be interested in coming they should contact their club office where arrangements can be made to forward information.

This competition can be played any day of the week. It costs just €2 to enter and when 15 have played the competition finishes and we start a new one. The competition is played over the first 10 holes.

The next trips to Fota will take place on Wednesday 22nd and Wednesday 29th February. All players wishing to travel must contact either Bob or Brian O’Connor. Any drivers available would be appreciated.
