Fri 16th May: Open 18 Hole Stableford.

Club Classic:

The annual club classic takes place over the weekend of Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th May. This is the main money earner for the club every year and it helps to finance the various teams and our very extensive junior programme. As many members as possible are requested to try and play in the event and also to try and get some visitors to join them in playing. It costs just €60 per team with re-entry for members at €10. Teams can be Ladies, or gents or Mixed. The format this year is one to count for the first 12 holes and two to count on the final 6 holes.

Barton Shield at Dungarvan:

Best of luck to Brian O’Connor and his team when they play in the Barton Shield at Dungarvan on Saturday next.

Captain’s Prize

The qualifying rounds for the Captain’s Prize, very kindly presented by Michael Wall, will take place on Friday 30th May (from 12.30 onwards) and Saturday 31st May. These time sheets are now open for entry to the Captain’s Prize. The draw will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday 28th May and only the players taking part in the draw are eligible to win the first prize.

Match Play Competitions.

All the draws have taken place for the various club match play events for 2008 and they are posted in the kiosk. All matches have a deadline and it is the club policy that no extensions to these dates are allowed. All these dates are also contained in the club Diary.

Bruen Trials

The Bruen panel are taking on the  Purcell panel in the Gold Coast at 6.00pm on Monday evening at 6.00pm and a good turn out is expected. The Bruen panel will have further trials on Monday 19th and 26th May in the Gold Coast at 6.00pm. After that some practise sessions and some coaching sessions will be arranged for the selected panel. Dates for these sessions will be arranged at a later stage.

Spanish Qualifier:

Last October six lucky winners jetted off to Sunset Beach, the Costa del Sol’s favourite accommodation for golfers in Spain, to play golf in three top class courses. Tom White, Jody Hallinan, Tony Sheehan, Jimmy O’Dwyer, Nicholas Fitzgerald and Robert Poag had a fantastic time and I have no doubt that they will be trying very hard to qualify again this year.

The April qualifying round gets underway on Friday 4th April and continues to the end of September. The winner each month will be the player with the best three cards from 18 hole competitions. Entry is €20 per month. Entries must be paid before playing. Scores recorded before paying will not be counted.

Junior Notes

Coaching

Coaching is proving to be very popular with the junior golfers and continues this Tuesday evening at the practise ground at 7.00pm for the beginners. On Tuesday the 20th May coaching for the lower handicap juniors will commence at 7.00pm in the practise area and will continue for three sessions approximately. Junior members interested in taking part in this programme please give your name to one of the Junior committee or to Tom or Bob in the Kiosk. That will bring us in to June when the Junior competitions will resume on the 3rd June at 9.15 pm. All the Junior weekly club competitions this year are sponsored by the adult Winter League teams. The Junior committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members that contributed to this fund which will help to promote and encourage our Junior members.
